[Rose is at Cinna's store trying to help corral some of the madness. She's been around long enough to know that visitor's weekend always means a bit of madness. She's going to stick as close to the windows and door as possible though just in case she sees someone she knows.]

Then... I'm glad he has you. [That's the smile of the brave little soldier.]

[Rose recognises that smile and she's trying very hard not to be jealous and inferior feeling. She offers Martha back the same sort of smile.]

He--he needs people around.

[And she takes a deep breath because being a grown up is hard, okay?]

M'glad he--it couldn't've been easy bein'--m'glad he has you. Out...out there, I mean. Just...hug him. A lot. He needs it even if he won't admit it.

[Martha glances away for a moment.]

Yeah. I did my best. [And at some point, that hadn't been good enough--for her. She pushes the thought away, looks back.] For such a clever man, there's a lot he doesn't see.

[Oh here's something they can sort of bond about as long as neither of them get into too many details.]

So many things he doesn't see. [She bites her bottom lip a bit. This doesn't really apply to Martha's situation. At least she doesn't think it does or at least she hopes it doesn't.]

He's afraid lot more than you realise. Easier not to see it.

He's good at hiding it. But I guess I can relate to that. It gets easier, when you don't have much choice, yeah?

[She'd been afraid, so many times that year. Without him. Afraid for herself until fear for her loved ones relieved it somewhat. But in the end, she'd had to continue on, fighting for him. For them.]

[Rose hesitates before nodding.]

S'pose it does.

[It's admirable, really and Rose sees that in her. She doesn't know what happened with Martha except that she used to travel with the Doctor and she was content with being left behind for whatever reason.]

[How wrong you are, Rose. If only Martha knew... she still probably wouldn't tell her, without good reason.]

Anyway, if anyone can keep him in line, pretty sure it's you. So how've you been? Really. I mean, it's different for him, a bit. You and me, we've got to make lives, y'know?

[She's entirely wrong but she's basing her knowledge on what she knows and that short bit of time she saw her during the Dalek invasion.]

I love it here. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it. I've got a job as a shop girl. My boss is fantastic. [She bites her bottom lip] How're you doin'? Back home.

[Martha smiles tightly.]

Sounds like everything you could want. [She shrugs.] You know. About to finish my degree. Be a real doctor, and all that.

[Okay, now she's going to stare, gape a little and try not feel totally insecure. She'd just been bragging about being a shop girl.]

...you're a doctor?

[She feels like an idiot. A low class, didn't finish her A levels, idiot.]

Er... [Not the reaction she'd expected. Now she feels like a jerk, and what's more, she knows the Doctor doesn't talk about her. At all.]

Yeah. Was doing my residency when I met him. That sort of got put on hold, but... when I got back, seemed even more important for me to do.

[Oh Martha, it's not that he doesn't remember you. It has more to do with Rose and her insecurities. She doesn't ask about Martha because she knows Martha came after her. Rose hates thinking about that.]
