[The device kicks on and Charlie's caught mid-sentence.]

[There's grumbling from someone and an apology and they head off and Charlie's speaking again, mumbling.]

Random as hell. Must be a cur---[Whatever is going on must be happening again because Charlie stops speaking for a moment, long enough to siiiiiigh.]

Th-thank you for the hug. Yes, I know you. You're a regular at the Jasmine Dragon. [Pause. Someone's speaking and they sound cheerful.] Yes, I'll see you tomorrow.

[Another pause. The person is talking again.] I don't always look like I need a hug. What are you talking about?

[And the device shuts off.]

[ooc: charlie's running errands. she's at the grocery store or a bookstore or on her way home. Hugs must happen to her. Yes. She will not burn anyone, I promise. Unless they hold on too long.]

[Sam waves from just down the street. He's doing errands, too. And suddenly it seems like he hasn't seen her in ages.]

It's been too long. Way too long.

[Sam swoops in like a crane, enfolding her in his embrace.]

[Oh, good Christ. At least it's Sam. She knows him and likes him. But it takes a minute for her to react and hug back, both eyebrows raised slightly.]

Hi, Sam. [Awkward hugs and a half smile on her face.]

[A beat. Sam lets go.]

Uh. That was... yeah. Inappropriate, right?

It was definitely new. I think it's a curse.

[Stephen sees Charlie as he's heading to the work. He gives her a wave. And then he's suddenly striding over and folding her up in his manly embrace. For some reason.]

[Charlie really should make it a habit of checking the network before going out. There's a faint 'oof' as she's hugged by Stephen and she has to wonder why people several times her size are the ones that hug her and not people her size? At least then she won't feel like she's just vanished in flannel. But, since she knows Stephen, she hugs him in return.]

Harmless curse. [She's not sure if she enjoys it or not at the moment. If only because she's been hugged a LOT so far today.]

[ Howard tries to keep this a secret, but he's a human being, and he does - gasp - shopping. He goes out and he buys food.

But rather than ducking out of sight and hiding in the cereal aisle like he's been known to do, seeing Charlie doing her own shopping draws him out, and he steps over, puts down the small basket of a sad bachelor, and pulls her into his arms. ]

[Howard needs a grocery shopping buddy and that buddy should be Charlie. That'd be kind of fun.

And by this point, Charlie's been hugged enough to actually expect this so Howard gets a hug in return.]

Except he doesn't let go as quickly as other people seem to be doing, sighing as he holds on, because he's a deprived man when it comes to comfort. ]

Lena. This ain't awkward, is it? 'Cause I'm having a problem stepping away.

[ Action ]

[Oh, Howard. Don't tell Lena that. It'd break her heart. She pulls away long enough to grin up at him.] It's not awkward at all. I'm being hugged by someone I know and trust. I'm okay with it.

[She shrugs then looks at him with mild concern.] Why? Is it awkward for you?

Not when it's random strangers. It's a little much, then.

[And she's possibly linefacing when people she knows hug her. She's just not one for physical contact.]

It is, yes. I don't like it either. I cannot get any work done because, every time someone walks by, I hug them, or they hug me.

That has to be frustrating. I keep getting hugged by the guy at the deli counter. It's very weird and he smells sort of like olive loaf. It's gross.

[Rose runs into Charlie while she's doing her own grocery shopping. She abandons her cart for an enthusiastic hug. Rose doesn't know how to do those things half way.]

[Charlie's a bit caught off guard by the enthusiasm but she still hugs rose back, managing a half smile.] Hi, Rose.
