017 - Sour Wine Is Sweeter On Your Lips - Video/Forward-Dated To The Curse Night

[The video flicks on to whipping wind and glittering cityscape. Karl sits perched on a roof parapet, his head silhouetted against a half-moon. His teeth are white and sharp and his eyes are blood-red.]

This is a rather amusing curse. Well, passably so. I haven't allowed my standards to sink that low yet.

[A dark chuckle.]

Chimeras. Bogeymen. And everyone crying and cowering, like pathetic children. It's entertaining enough to make me want to join the party~

...

I wonder if she's out there tonight. Surely I've given her a delightful nightmare or two~

[Laughing, Karl vanishes from his spot in a blur. The feed snaps shut.]

[OOC: Have a monster? He will kill. Just for the lulz. Give a vampire something to do, City! ^^b]

[Let Karl think some of that energy is coming from Kira. He doesn't mind in the slightest to be underestimated. It's an advantage. Besides, here, he's capped some, and he knows it. Even now he feels it.

[He blushes at Kira's words, though.]

Wh-what? What do that have to do with it? I like fighting and all, but.... [Flustered. Speaking is a little hard.]

I think it was Kira that intruded, wasn't it? [Don't even say that out loud, Karl.]

[It might have been his plan to get Karl to leave. Just a tad.]

M-hm, but in my defense, I feel fully justified.

[For so many reasons.]

[That's not a nice expression, Karl.]

It seems so.

[Detaching his bright-red gaze from Kira, Karl focuses on Setsuna. All the singing energy. All that power. It's absolutely delicious. For the first time since meeting the two, Karl is fixated more on the Cherub than his guardian.]

Well, Setsuna. I believe it's time to call it a night. Hm?

You always find a way to justify it. [Setsuna shakes his head at Kira, then looks alarmed at Karl.]

Wait! I said I was going to look after you tonight, remember?!

You think he can't behave himself alone?

[Kira doesn't like the way Karl's looking at Setsuna. Not at all. Doesn't help much that he's fairly sure he can guess his thoughts.]

Then I guess we're hanging out together.

Are we?

[He lets off a laugh. Both at Kira's words, and the wary way he intercepts Karl's glances toward Setsuna.]

Fair enough. As long as everyone has fun.

[Spending this curse with The Devil and an Angel wasn't on his agenda. But if he can keep the mysterious little Setsuna in his sights, why not?]

[Setsuna notices the glances, but only that Karl and Kira are exchanging them, so he thinks Karl might still be thinking of attacking Kira, and Kira, is, of course, just being Kira.]

Yeah, we are, then. Because, no, Senpai, I don't think he can stay out of trouble on his own. [Never mind what might have happened before you came along, Setsuna.]

I don't think he can, either.

[He just doesn't see how that's their problem.]

So what do you dream at night?

I'm standing right here, Setsuna~

[Please stop discussing him as if he's invisible. At Kira's question, he tilts his head, smirking.]

I don't dream. Can't sleep.

So? I was answering Kira's question. I don't care if you know what I think of you. [One benefit to knowing Setsuna - you know what he thinks, good or bad, and there's no backstabbing.]

Yeah, he was telling me about that earlier. No dreams. Kinda dull. But maybe it's best for the City....

[Yes, Setsuna was an idiot, rude and often oblivious, but he was honest, too honest at times. Nevertheless, definitely something Kira appreciated.]

Sounds dull. No wonder you've gone crazy, old man, when your subconscious doesn't have time to deal with putting up with you.

[Yes, the Cherub certainly is honest. But that's not what piques Karl's interest. It's all that mysterious, inexplicable power he can sense crackling around him, like from a cut power-line whipping the ground.]

Funny you should say that. Here I thought the Devil never slept, either.

[And to think, that power is currently limited. What would Karl think of it in its full glory. No, Setsuna wouldn't want to know that.]

Well, I don't know about the Devil, but Kira-senpai sleeps, enough.

[He's not even sure what to say to that. It makes him sound kind of lazy, doesn't it? He doesn't sleep that much!]

I'm just human, old man.

[A human. With the Devil's - what? Memories? Cunning? All in all, it sounds like an immense anti-blessing, to Karl.]

I see.

[An interesting tidbit to tuck away. The Devil is human. And sleeps. Meaning Setsuna won't be under his supervision all the time.]

[So much the better.]

[But Kira doesn't sleep a lot, which is why Setsuna said enough. And Setsuna sleeps right by Kira. Good luck, Karl. Oh...he does know where they live. That's right]

So. ...Senpai, what do you dream about at night? [He can't help being curious, now, since Kira asked Karl.] I mean, aside from getting chased around by wires.

[And as this outing demonstrates, Kira does a pretty good job of keeping an eye on Setsuna. Also, they obviously need to move.]

[Blinking at you, Sets. Seriously, asking him that in front of Karl?]
