No. I don't remember anything like that. I requested you, by reputation, when my CMO retired. [He runs a hand over his face.] I suppose I should be more surprised, but I'm not. How long have you been here, Bo--Doctor.
[This isn't his McCoy. Not his Bones. It's starting to hurt his head, and he can't even begin to ask all the questions he wants to.]
Everyone. I know at least one person who's been here for three years.
[ There's a shake of his head. ]
No, they've all been destroyed back where I come from. This is something else. There are beings calling themselves deities. They bring people here, and every few days, something odd happens within the city. It can make people say things they've been tryin' to keep to themselves, it can change them physically, or it can influence them in other ways. Folks around here call them "curses". Deities are behind that, too, or so everyone figures.
Mine won't either. There's no contact with anything outside the City, and there's a barrier around the island. Apparently an expedition went out this summer, but the storms were so bad they had to turn back.
Doesn't help that the technology here is from about the year 2000, give or take a decade.
Great. [Primitive worlds. They've been here before. Jim sighs.] We've got to find a way out, Bones. We can't just let these people remain trapped here.
Weekends like this happen, but like all the curses, they're not permanent. Everyone who's just showing up now is going to go back where they came from.

[ Oh hell. ]
Maybe in your reality. In mine, we met on the shuttle to the Academy. I was there when you were made Captain.

[ Ow. Having that nickname pulled back, even knowing this isn't his Jim? That kind of hurts. ]
Almost two months now.

Two months. My god. You mean everyone's stranded here? Does it... was it these Romulans?

When all else fails, blame the gods? Well what's being done? I mean... my communicator won't connect to the ship. There must be some way out of here.

Think you can do it in two days?

And you'll stay here.

You probably won't remember this, either.
