[ Elena is taking a walk. Other than running, it's helping clear her head, especially when her head is filled with Shakespearean murder and memories of Mystic Falls. She's standing at the fountain she appeared in that first day - was dropped in is more like it. Right now, it's a long lunch but seeing as Dean's her boss, he hopefully won't mind. It's not like she does this every day.

when the video feed cuts on, Elena's now sitting at the fountain. ]

I was working and missed the hot springs that sprang up. [ say that five times fast. but, it gave her more reason to take a long hot bath that night. ] Was that a repeating curse or did it happen the one time? [ she'd like to not miss it the second time around.

she doesn't have much else to say right this second. it's a difficult day. no leads in the murder cases. no real way to work through what happened back home with Stefan and the bridge. who can she even talk to? maybe... ]

[ It would be - amazing to have Caroline or Bonnie here. But she doesn't have them. Most of her close friends are men.

she gets up again and turns off the feed.

she walks back to the station, drops her stuff off at her desk and knocks on Dean's door ]

[Dean looks up from his desk. He's been looking at the murder files until he's pretty much cross eyed. He puts them down and says loudly]

Yeah! Come on in.

[A distraction will be welcome.]

[ And Elena will distract away as she steps inside! She closes the door behind her before facing him. ]

We're not going to find who did this, are we?

[ What would you bring? ] No, it's alright.

First time it happened to me at least, but there are people who've been here longer. It's too bad you missed it.

I had to wait tables. [ A beat. ] It looked relaxing.

It was pretty boss, yeah.

There was this place called Sneaky Dees we'd go to after recording. Greasiest nacho chips you've ever had in your life. It was amazing.

It sounds really nice. We had the Grille. [ Mystic Grille but they called it the Grille. ] It was convenient. Close. My brother and [ my ex boyfriend ] my friend Matt worked there.

It's good to have a local. Granted, it's hard when you happen to work at your friends' local and they try to get free food out of you.

Do people do that a lot?

My boyfriend tries it pretty much every day. You'd think we didn't keep any food at home.

[ You starve him, don't you.

Boyfriend. He has a boyfriend. He's lucky. There aren't many gay people in Mystic Falls ~~thank Kevin Williamson~~ but her friend Caroline's father is gay! not that she even remotely has a problem with homosexuality at all! ]

We usually paid for stuff. [ no reason to get her brother and ex boyfriend father, right? ] Maybe it tastes better when it's free.

[There aren't very many in Whitby, Ontario either let him tell you.]

I think he just likes being difficult. You are clearly a much better person.
