[And as she slowly stops singing, the glow in her hair slowly fades away, the magic slowly going back dormant. She's still biting her lip nervously.]

[That is... certainly a different kind of magic, but it's most definitely magic, he can feel it very clearly now, how it surges through those strands. And he's not surprised it's different, because they are from different worlds.

He probably couldn't make thousands of floating lights, but at least some, from the other end of the room somewhere. It would be a little different from taking them from already burning candlelights, but he'd be fine.]

[She nods and goes to get the lights, and lo, it is dark.]

[After gesturing for her to come back over, he chooses a spot near one of the tables near the wall, and focuses very carefully. His eyes start glowing yellow, briefly, as a small fire starts, a bit like the light on a candle but not quite as focused.

Then, as he it starts ascending, he creates one more, and continues that way.]

[Her eyes widen as she watches the small lights fill the room.]

You...you're making floating lights...

[And her face just lights up like a child at Christmas.]

[He chuckles and spares one glance at her, but he doesn't want to get too distracted, just in case. And he keeps making small fires as he steers them across the ceiling.

There's only one other person he has done this for, but he doesn't think she would mind and, besides... he doesn't think he needs to be quite as careful here. A few people knowing should be fine.]

[She just keeps staring, wide eyed and filled with unbelievable joy...]

[His grin widened and his cheeks almost flush, and he'll just roll around in that really nicely said compliment for a while if that's fine. While trying to keep an eye on all the lights.

Yeah, okay, despite the Gaius-like voice in his head saying he shouldn't have done this, he's happy he did.]

Mother told me that when I was a baby, people tried to cut my hair to use the magic for themselves...after that, she kept me in a tower to protect me from everything outside of it.

I know she was doing what she thought was best, but having been here so long, I'm...starting to see a lot of the things she told me weren't true. At all.

[At her apology, he shakes his head and just creates new fires as he listens to her, but he lets these ones just hover around them to create light.]

I use magic at the risk of my life every time, but that doesn't mean I'll hide away to protect myself, and anyone who cares for me wouldn't make me do that either. Life is dangerous for anyone, it's not exclusive to magical people.
