A tower?

[Her face falls a little as the lights fade away, because she now feels bad she broke Merlin's concentration.]

Sorry, I didn't mean to distract you...

Mother told me that when I was a baby, people tried to cut my hair to use the magic for themselves...after that, she kept me in a tower to protect me from everything outside of it.

I know she was doing what she thought was best, but having been here so long, I'm...starting to see a lot of the things she told me weren't true. At all.

[At her apology, he shakes his head and just creates new fires as he listens to her, but he lets these ones just hover around them to create light.]

I use magic at the risk of my life every time, but that doesn't mean I'll hide away to protect myself, and anyone who cares for me wouldn't make me do that either. Life is dangerous for anyone, it's not exclusive to magical people.

Yeah. Sometimes, people aren't at all what you'd like to think, but going around expecting everyone to want to take advantage of you and hiding because of that... It sounds depressing.

[Rapunzel shudders slightly at that, nodding.]

I lived my whole life thinking that...I know it's not true, now, but...I just missed so much as a result...

I think I would've gone mad. What did you do all day?

I had a lot of hobbies. I think the only reason I didn't go nuts was because I'd never left the tower to begin with...

Of course, now I don't think I can ever go back and be happy again.

Hobbies?

[Maybe they should move onto something more cheerful.]
