So what's a girl got to do to get a ship around here? Not the one that sank a few weeks ago, mind. I'm not in a hurry to freeze to death again, though a little ice play never hurt anyone.

[Isabela's currently sitting on a large, jutting rock by the beach, picking her nails with a dagger. She's got the device in her lap, the camera pointed up at her. She hasn't figured out any of the other settings yet... but whatever. This works.]

Should I shout for those supposed gods that run this place?

[She peers over her little rock before swiftly tossing her dagger at one of these.]

Oooh- do you think they like seafood? I just caught myself a nasty little bugger.

Ohh, so you're a deity! How interesting. Should I introduce myself, or is that preaching to the choir?

Well, Doctor, I'd like to strike up one of those deals. Problem is, I didn't exactly ask for the details on how this works. A deity can't want just any old thing, I'm assuming.

Well, I don't know. I accepted a pair of eyebrows for a trade once.

What do you want and what do you offer for it?

I want a ship. A pretty little brigantine with room for a small crew and a snazzy Captain's cabin. Doesn't have to be big- just fast.

[She smirks.]

Darling, I've got a lot to offer. The question is what'll suit.

A ship's got its uses, and I've got services. Or would you prefer something a little more concrete and measurable? Someone mentioned memories. I rather like mine, but-- I like big boats, I cannot lie.

When a ship floats in with an itty-bitty wake and a flat stern in your face, you get sprung?

Yeah.

Memories so often do us well. As do objects. The cost should equal the value. And it sounds as though this ship might mean quite a bit to you.

Now you've got the idea.

Sounds fair- a ship's no small matter regardless of how you spin it. But I at least get to know what you do with memories before I go and decide to give 'em up, don't I?

We all have our kinks.

I keep them in jars. On my desk. They're nice to look at. So better choose wisely which ones you want to give me.

Or loan me. I could hold them for a time and then return them. So long as it's of a cost to you if I do.

You know, this is so much easier when bags of coin and jewels are involved. I even stole some of the pretty colored ones for you, just in case.

[Mentally perusing her bank of memories. There's Hawke-- but that just feels like a betrayal. And she'd promised.

...but her ship...]

Yes, yes, elemental gold and crystallized carbon and corundum and crystalline aluminum oxide and beryl with chromium. All very nice. I like sparkly things too.

But I can get those easily. I like things that are a little more rare.

If not memories, something else. An ability. A skill. A sense. An eye. Or two.

I feel like I'm engaging in some sort of evolved form of bartering.

[She laughs]

An eye? It would be suiting to get myself an eyepatch, wouldn't it? A bit dark, and I've always been told I had such pretty eyes.

Got a minimum rate of how long you keep these things, sweetness?

Think of it like that, if you want.

Wouldn't it be fitting? And then you could get the parrot and everything. A perfect idea.

A month, I think. I could take it down to two or three weeks if I think what I'm getting is worth it.

Let's haggle.

I'd be the picture-perfect pirate right down to the booty and eyepatch.

Like I said- they're pretty eyes. I need them to fight and steer properly. It's much more valuable than just something that pops out of my head.

As for you-- well, I always did say pretty eyes make for nice necklaces. Do you like jewelry, doctor?

I don't wear it often, but I could make an exception.

One eye, to be worn by me as, oh, say a ring. Why not?

And for how long? Two weeks? Three? A month?

If I flatter your taste enough, would two weeks sound charming enough for you? Anyway, they say trends move fast -- wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing last week's big thing, forward doctor-deity type that you are.

I'm about as bass ackwards as they come, kiddo. But you're a charmer. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Is digging it out of my head with my dagger part of the price? That's entertaining for some, I hear. Though I'm going to need a stiff drink if that's the case.

Take a drink anyway, but we can pop it out without the crudities of daggers and spoons. I mean, I'd figure you'd want a drink. I'll pour it myself if it comes to that.

I feel like we're getting close already, doctor. Fine- just point the way and I'll drop off my eyeball for a drink and a ship.

Maybe it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

We try. Sometimes what's equal doesn't always seem fair.

I'm not sure who came up with that. But the name sticks.
