I can't help but think about the date - in exactly one week will be the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. With everyone talking about curses... Well, I believe the Titanic sunk because it was cursed.

[She says this with a completely straight face.]

There was an Egyptian mummy on board the Titanic, and everyone who was involved with this mummy died a mysterious death. And that's why the Titanic sunk.

[Really, still a straight face here - totally straight. She really believes what she's talking about as she continues her little lecture on this mummy.]

This mummy was really pretty, because her body never shriveled up - and it wasn't saponification either - she was frozen! The story says that from the time of its discovery, all the way through to when it got put on the Titanic - and even though it was carried through the desert - her body never melted! The water in her body stayed frozen!

They called this water in her body Ice-Nine!

Where did you hear about that? I must have missed it when I was reading through the Earth history books.

It's in my history books as well. In my time, it occurred well over 100 years ago, but it's still an incident taught in history classes in school. Most books only cover the basics, but yes, they were cursed! I think it's because schools would rather leave things like magic and curses out of books and try to make it sound like human error or an 'act of God'.

I was told there wasn't very much magic on Earth though? It is a little surprising that anyone would want to cover that up if indeed that is what happened.
Wouldn't you want to warn other ships about the potential of magical curses?

Oh, but there's lots of magic, just people don't believe in it. You've probably heard and read about a lot of religions, right? It's kind of like that, and a taboo to really speak about.

But the person who boarded All-Ice, as they called her, on this ship must have known, or at least the person who employed the Titanic to take her with them. Maybe they thought that curse was nothing more than a silly story. I bet that's why there's been no more known major ships that sunk in our world.

[She's just gonna see where this takes her as she continues to pull this out of her ass.]

So what was the curse exactly? Surely it wasn't 'if you take this mummy on a boat you will hit ice and sink'?
That would be a bit specific!

No, just whoever came in contact with the mummy died. And because the mummy was on the Titanic, well, maybe there was some second hand effect where if someone saw the mummy and then interacted with someone else, they became cursed. And then whoever those people came in contact with became cursed - so on and so forth!

A curse spreading like an illness? Would that ever really happen?

It's a curse, so yes! Anything is possible with them.
