Oh yes... I do have a question. Is being in the company of others really the only way to make the ticking sound stop? It can be a bit difficult to sleep.

I've heard that, yes. I prefer to be a private person when it comes to sleeping arrangements, but I'm not sure I can handle having a pet, either. There's my dilemma.

I would recommend a pet, as others have. [He's scanned the other responses.] I adopted mine from an animal shelter, and it's rather easy to find work here.

I myself have never had a companion animal before arriving here. It does lessen the ticking, and since I live alone, it's preferable to the alternative.

Pets do help. And if you don't have the funds for one, there's usually some stray animal wandering around, or people will to give some away.

There's also just going to the welcome center and being around others. The library, some of the shops. I walk around sometimes. It helps.

I do spend a lot of time out and about to avoid it, but that leaves very little quiet time.

Oh, yes, if you like some time to yourself, that would be a problem. [Which might explain why Ken never got rid of the cat his younger self acquired.]

I've not heard of anything else that helps, though. The ticking is pretty persistent.
