[Another sigh as he looks around him again. No way had he wanted to come back to Earth yet. It had been a couple of months but all that guilt he carried still felt as if he'd only acquired it yesterday. He wasn't ready to be here on Earth again. At least it seemed Earth-like...]

Well isn't this nifty? And convenient... [He spots the device and eyes it for a few accessing moments before picking it up. It's rare that Jack shies away from alien technology so he he instantly begins to fiddle with it. The video comes on to a brightly smiling Jack.] Ah, there we go. Captain Jack Harkness here. [And since he knows his smile is impressive, he nods his agreement with what others obviously must be thinking at the sight of it.] I know.

Seems I'm a little bit off course from where I intended to materialize. Malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator. Anyone care to put me up for the night while I work on repairing it? [A glance to his left at the coffee shop and then an arched brow back into the video screen.] I'll be sure to con you a cup of coffee for your trouble.

[Plus she seems to have been very alone here for awhile and Jack doesn't like that at all.]

[ This isn't necessarily a bad thing. He understands that timelines make it difficult to know what to say. ]

Oh I have plenty of stories for everyone. There's always a story and boy can I talk when I feel the need to fill the silence. [Which happens more often than not.]

That's what happens when you can't die, stories pile up on top of stories. A less quick-witted man than me might find himself confused.

So you're back to being immortal again. Heard something about it and found it hard to believe. Then again, I never got the details.

Satelite Five... death by Daleks. Then suddenly I'm alive again with no Doctor or Rose to be found. Discovered later that I couldn't die anymore. Trust me, I've tried. Guess when Rose ate up the time vortex she brought me back with that power. Instant immortal.

[He grins and offers a light chuckle.] And I mean really, lucky for everyone. Who wouldn't want to have me around forever? I'm great company to keep.

[ Well, that's... whoa. ] Is she immortal too?

[ Why this was his first question is probably better not something the Doctor should think about too hard. ]

[Don't worry, Jack had wondered that as well about Rose.]

I don't think she is. I mean I'd love to have a Rose Tyler around for forever too but I think she went back to mortal when the vortex wasn't inside her anymore. It's the fact that she healed me with it that keeps bringing me back to life. And let me tell you, going through the whole death back to life thing over and over again isn't a picnic. So I'm actually glad she isn't immortal.

[Rose Tyler deserves better than that kind of pain. She deserves to live, to feel and to be able to die, or at least to have a choice in the matter.]

[ The Doctor might feel lonely when he thinks about a life without Rose, but he can't argue with Jack's point. Immortality sucks. ]

I'm glad too. [ He's quiet for a moment. ] Taking the vortex into her should have killed her.
