[Jack is standing in the square, looking up and around at the City and then back down at the Vortex Manipulator on his wrist.] Oh, come on. You had to malfunction now? I mean you've done it before, but...
[Another few brisk taps at the wristband.] Work! If you don't work, a lovely second in command named Bernard is going to be very disappointed when he's stood up. And seriously, of all the places...
[Another sigh as he looks around him again. No way had he wanted to come back to Earth yet. It had been a couple of months but all that guilt he carried still felt as if he'd only acquired it yesterday. He wasn't ready to be here on Earth again. At least it seemed Earth-like...]
Well isn't this nifty? And convenient... [He spots the device and eyes it for a few accessing moments before picking it up. It's rare that Jack shies away from alien technology so he he instantly begins to fiddle with it. The video comes on to a brightly smiling Jack.] Ah, there we go. Captain Jack Harkness here. [And since he knows his smile is impressive, he nods his agreement with what others obviously must be thinking at the sight of it.] I know.
Seems I'm a little bit off course from where I intended to materialize. Malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator. Anyone care to put me up for the night while I work on repairing it? [A glance to his left at the coffee shop and then an arched brow back into the video screen.] I'll be sure to con you a cup of coffee for your trouble.

LIFT OFF]
Action
[By the time she gets to him, his arms are open with a broad smile on his lips. He's practlically rippling with excitement, not only at seeing Rose, but at the possibility that the Doctor might be here too. He lifts her up off her feet in a tight hug and twirls her around.] Rose Tyler if you you aren't a sight for sore eyes, I don't know what is.
Action
Ought to be sayin' that 'bout you. Captain Jack, it's good to see you again.
Action
Let me guess, world's in great peril and you're here saving it. And now you have just the man here to help you do it. [He's talking about himself mostly, but that doesn't stop him from looking around for a blue police box.]
Action
Yeah, it's always good to see you. [She tilts her head a bit.] World doesn't need savin' so much, but it's usually in some sorta peril.
[And that settles it. He doesn't remember anything about being here before. She sees him looking around and sort of guesses what he's looking for.]
This is The City, sorta stuck here for the mo' but the Doctor is here. Three of him actually, both the ones you and me know and the one after them.
Action
So explain this City to me. If even the Doctor can't get out then there's no hope for the rest of us to. [He gets that. But saying it out loud makes it more real to him. If something's holding the Doctor in? It has to be pretty powerful.]
Action
Sorta...one way sealed pocket dimension? Y'know how in most dimensions, you find a crack. You shove somethin' through that crack to the other side and...every time you do that, the crack gets bigger 'til the dimension collapses in on itself? This one doesn't work that way. The crack isn't there or...they're gettin' us in and out some other way, which makes more sense to me then anything else. [She'd spent a very long time studying dimensions, cracks and how to rip through them. She knows this place doesn't play by the normal rules.] TARDIS is here, but she's a woman, 'stead of the box. Definitely still the TARDIS though, she just can't go anywhere. Doctor said she couldn't really go anywhere when she was here as a box though. She could fly 'round but no gettin' out of here.
[She stops in the middle of this explanation to order a coconut latte and let Jack order. She'll pay for it since he's a bit moneyless right now.]
Action
It's her description of the TARDIS that gets and holds his attention. He arches a brow and gets that grin that he sometimes gets when his mind is in places it probably shouldn't be.] The TARDIS is a woman, huh? She pretty? Course she's pretty. She's the TARDIS.
Action
Bit odd but she's beautiful.
Action
Can't wait to meet her. And by the way, how did the TARDIS become a woman? This one of those curses I'm hearing about?
Action

Action
'Course. Couldn't be anything else. I sat on the Doctor's shoulders and got finger paint in his hair. Blue.
[Neither one of the Doctors have any power whatsoever against tiny!Rose. It's not as if their willpower with her is real strong anyway.]
Action
Action
That one was lotsa fun. Some of 'em aren't. The other day I was trapped in a bubble sorta thing. I couldn't touch anyone. It was horrible. No hugs, no holding hands.
Action
So these curses, they affect everyone? Any way to get out of them?
Action
It was awful. Everyone thought I was bein' ridiculous 'cept the Doctor with the hair. Sorta the Doctor with the jacket. He got it. Just tried to cheer me out of it, y'know?
[She contemplates that and shakes her head.] Seems sorta random. Doctor didn't have a bubble of space that day. Neither did Jenny or Donna but Amy did. 'Far as I know, there's no way to keep 'em from happenin'. I try sometimes, when it's been a coupla days without a curse, I'll stick extra close to the Doctor, thinkin' that maybe it'll keep the bad ones from us. Doesn't always work.
Action
[His look turns thoughtful. He doesn't like the sound of curses at all. In fact, it worries him a lot, that he might get affected by one without his consent. But then he guesses being brought here and kept here wasn't with his consent either. Neither was his being here before without his knowing it.
He purses his lips together, shakes his head and takes a sip of his coffee again.] I get it. I'm a very tactile person, you know. Even when I've been imprisoned or anything like that, I found a way to make a connection somewhere and somehow. If I'd been unable to touch anyone, my imprisonments would have been less happy experiences.
Action
'Least most of the time, that isn't a problem.

Action
The imprisonment part isn't so bad though. I've got both my Doctors and you here. Lookin' brilliant right now.
