[Derek's been out for his morning jog. It's something he does every morning unless circumstances don't allow it. This is the first time in awhile that circumstances have allowed it and it feels good to be back at it. He's briefly stopped at Cafe Juliet for a few minutes to cool down after his run and grab some coffee. Anyone is free to run into him there.

But while waiting, he turns the video on and offers the network a small grin.] So I'm not gonna ask for a roll call or anything. Youth Center's back to normal. Kids are okay. Teenagers are okay. I'm alright. Hope everyone else is the same.

[His name is called and he's briefly distracted as he picks up his coffee and moves to sit at a table outside on the patio of the cafe. Once he's settled, he speaks up again.] Combat training classes will start up again tomorrow night. For anyone who has questions about that, I'm stamping a file here that you can download.

Otherwise, hope the day started out as good for you as it did for me. [End video feed.]

[Penny was going to reply on the network, but, as luck would have it, she's a few tables over having chai tea. She waves to Derek.]

[The second he notices her, a full smile spreads over his lips. He stands up and moves over to her table.]

Hey, Red. Saving this seat for someone?

Yep. Fortunately, I was saving it for you. [Which is obviously not true since she didn't know he was there, but...]

I'm a lucky, lucky man. Doing good actually. Got a morning jog in which is nice. Haven't done that in awhile with the City turning to sand all over the place. But I usually like to jog every morning. Clears the head, you know?

[Derek adds a small tub of cream to his coffee and three sugars. He contemplates a fourth for a second before deciding three is enough and stirring it all together.]

How are you? You look good.

You were stuck out in the desert too, huh? Not the best jogging weather. It really is nice to be back. ...Not that I jog, but that's neat that it clears your head.

[And burning off the bazillion calories he just added to his coffee, but she's not going to judge.]

Me? Good! I'm good. It might take a few dozen more showers for me to feel like I've got all the desert out of my hair, but I'm doing really well.

[If Penny ever saw Derek's friend Reid make a cup of coffee, she'd see that the amount of sugar Derek puts in his is just the tip of the iceberg. He grins and nods at her.]

Yeah, the shower thing. Man, it's easy to take that for granted unless you don't have it for awhile. You do any kind of aerobic activity?

It seriously is. How long were you there for? The whole curse?

[She smiles sheepishly.]

Not on purpose. At home I used to do a ton of running around, though--petitioning, doing errands for people. Going green involves a lot of walking.

[Buffy is getting her morning coffee and is still some what zombified. She's not a morning person but for the most part, she thinks it's valid. Patrol keeps her up late. She catches sight of Derek and smiles, heading over toward him.]

I missed coffee with a giant, burning miss-y thing.

Yeah, I was just mentioning how we take things for granted until we don't have them, like coffee and showers.

[He waves a hand out, indicating the empty chair across from him.]

[She sits down in the seat across from him.]

Mmmmm it's very Buffy-comfy too. So were you glass side or sand side?

Sand side. The creatures made a morning jog not that great. Now there's sidewalks and streets and...

[He lifts his coffee cup in a silent toast.] And coffee. And there's a Buffy. You doin' alright?

Me too and all of the sudden understanding why Apollo Creed made Rocky run in the sand. It's good for the quads. Or the butt...or something.

[She lifts her coffee as well and takes a sip.] I'm good. I'm all sorts of appreciate-y when it comes to things like my shower and my closet and my bed now.

[He emits a low chuckle and smiles, obviously impressed with her Rocky knowledge.] Some ex-boyfriend make you watch those movies or are you just that cool, Miss Thang?

Yeah, there are. I attend that class and Buffy's really good teaching the correct techniques.

[That gets a low chuckle out of him.] Buffy, yeah she's a superhero. Me, I'm just an ordinary guy. Name's Derek Morgan.
