[It's Charlie. She sounds excited. Ridiculously so.]

The Jasmine Dragon is back. Sand free. And my apartment is back. I need to buy new clothes since most of what I have is leftover from that one curse at the beginning of the month but whatever.

[There's a faint mew, a thump, some snuffling sounds and Charlie laughs.] Also, Petrichor says hi. I found him in the kitchen cabinet under the sink. Still haven't found Hypnos. I'm sure she's around here somewhere.

[end feed.]

[He wanted to give her time to situate herself before even ASKING.]

Would it be alright for me to go over? If not, that's okay. We can meet another time.

Absolutely! I'm home right now. I just finished grocery shopping [And taking a huge effing shower because ew sand.] so I'm home now.

[His voice is probably very light, small.]

I'll be over in a bit.

[Give it about fifteen-twenty minutes, and there's a light knock on her door.]

Okay! See you in a bit! [Charlie will happily answer the door, grey kitten under her arm because Petrichor thinks the wide world is meant for exploring.]

Hi! Come on in!

[He looks a little wide-eyed at her first, then notices the kitten and smiles slightly, bashful.]

A kitten.

[He enters then, but still looks a little nervous and unsure.]

You okay? [She shuts the door and sets Petrichor down. The kitten carefully makes his way over to Ken, mewing curiously.] This is Petrichor. I haven't seen him since the desert started.

[He looks down at the kitten, clearly wanting to pick him up, but he makes himself look at Charlie instead, eyes tearing up a bit.]

Yeah, I'm fine. But I owe you a huge apology.

I'm so sorry I went. It's my fault you ended up as stone. I -

[He cuts off, choked up, so mad at himself, filled with guilt.]

[Charlie watches him carefully, listening to what he says. Her smile fades and now it's just worry.] Hey. Ken. None of that. You don't--

[She's not sure how to handle this at all, really. She's not mad at him. She doesn't blame him for what happened.] If someone I knew was somewhere dangerous and I thought I could help, I'd go running in a heartbeat. Even if they told me stay put. And I don't blame you at all for what happened. Never have and I never will.

[He's relieved she's not mad at him, if nothing else, but to him, still, that doesn't change the fact he was an indirect cause for her becoming a statue.]

Still...you wouldn't have been out there if I hadn't been. I could've handled it better. I could have told you what I was planning and we could have met up at the safe zone, instead.

I still need to apologize.

[She smiles, nodding once.] Apology accepted, Ken. And I think Petrichor wants you to pick him up.

[The kitten's been waiting so patiently, too. Paws on Ken's shoe, a meow or two on occasion.]

[He gives her a relieved smile, a little watery, bottom lip quivering for a second. It really means a lot to him to feel forgiven for this, even though he still feels guilty. That's for another time, though.

[For now, he looks down at the kitten, then, gently, picks him up.]

I'm sorry, Petrichor. Was I ignoring you?

[He looks to Charlie.] He's so tiny and soft. My cat is an adult already, but still very soft.

[Petrichor mews loudly, butting her head against Ken's cheek before mewing again and purring. Charlie smiles, heading towards a closet in the living room. The games are in there and she promised her brother Battleship and he'd learn how to play it. That game was pulled down along with Checkers and a couple decks of cards.]

Petrichor likes you. I can tell. Be careful walking. He loves getting under peoples feet. And I'll show you how he plays fetch.

[He felt so...forgiven.... Petrichor only made it more solid with the affectionate rubbing.]

I'll carry him for now, then. They usually like doing that, don't they? Being at your feet....

[Oh, look. He's gonna start being open and honest with you, Charlie.] They remind me of Wormmon. He was always at my feet if I wasn't carrying him. I think it's just because he wanted to be by my side, always.

Wormmon sounds like a very loyal friend. That kind of thing doesn't happen that often. [No, she's not experienced in these matters. Nope. Not at all.]

He'll try to fall asleep on your shoulder. It's his favorite. Okay, so...I have 'Go Fish', checkers, the aforementioned Battleship and old maid. And Monopoly.

Wormmon, yes, he is. He stuck by me through a lot of bad things. And he's also my partner back home.

[Ken smiles at the kitten when Charlie says he likes to fall asleep on shoulders.] That's fine. And let's start with Battleship so I can learn to play it, then work our way up.
