Hey there, everyone who's visiting! I really hope you're having a good time and finding everyone you want to find.

If anyone needs anything at all, there's a building just off the main square--you know, where the door and the fountain are--called the Welcome Center. Just look for the big blue sign. I've got a bunch of coats and shoes if you didn't bring your parka with you, there's food--courtesy of the Blue Light, which is a really great place--and I can hook you up with a bed since this looks like you'll all be here a couple of days.

And if you don't really need anything, it's totally okay to drop by and hang out. There're chairs and central heating, and I'll have hot chocolate and tea standing by.

Friday, February 14th
[The first day is always kind of chaotic, and folks who come by the Welcome Center might have to search long and hard for Penny as she runs around the City to get everything together. The Center's doors will be open whether or not she's there. Handwritten signs taped to walls and cabinet doors will encourage visitors to make themselves at home and help themselves to anything they need. Don't go up the stairs, though! There's a door at the top with a sign requesting that it stay shut. There aren't any Valentine's Day decorations, but the chocolates left out on counter tops and side tables make up for that, right?

Anyone who does manage to track Penny down might find her friendly enthusiasm a bit forced.]

Saturday, February 15th through Sunday, February 16th
[Everything is in order and Penny will be around, ready to help or chat. Don't want to talk? That's cool, too! There're hot drinks and snacks on hand, and loitering in the common room is more than encouraged. Want some privacy? The Youth Center (currently serving as a hostel for interdimensional travelers), conveniently located a couple of City blocks away, offers that. Just ask Penny for directions and keys.

Or, you know, talk to her. She really does like talking to people, friends and strangers alike.]

You do! Lots of people know me, but you know me a little better than most people. Like, literally and figuratively, I used to come visit you a lot before you kind of forgot me.

I'm Bastian. I come here to hang out with people sometimes. You probably remember me a little better as the incarnate personification of Death, but you know, it's a day job. Night job. Or I guess more like job in perpetuity but I get to take vacations.

You're a lot cuter than the grim-reaper-y Death that I usually think of. Bastian? It's nice to meet you. Again. Is this the third time? I mean, were you around when I did the dying thing?

Oh, they do that on purpose! That's my work uniform. I mean, I could turn it on if I wanted but it usually just scares people? It's designed so it shows people their idea of Death--hitting all the deep-seated innate cultural pings for stuff to be afraid of, dark cloaks and spectre-faces and all that. It's not really that attractive, though, and I got kind of sick of not being cute. So I changed.

Yeah, I was there when you, y'know. It really sucked. I mean, more for you than for me, obviously, but I was sad about that one too.

It's okay. Well, it's--you know what I mean. I'm pretty much over it, and the City's not a bad place to be.

I hope it does. They're trying to make it so we can stay if we want to, and of course I'd stay. There's nowhere else to go.

I don't know about that. There's a lot of places to go; it's just that you guys usually don't know the way.

Do you ever show us the way with a motorcycle? Because that would explain this one note I guess I wrote that Euphie kept. This whole time I thought that riding off into the sunset with Death on his motorcycle was just a really weird metaphor.

Oh, you wrote about me, huh? Yup, that's me all right. We had a promise, you and me, that I'd come get you when it was your time to leave. It's okay if you don't remember; it won't hurt my feelings or anything. But yeah, that was our deal. Not to worry about whatever came after, because whenever it did, you could at least count on me being there to help you get to where you needed to be.

We really had a deal like that? [Aww again! Death's going to end up getting a hug if he's not careful.] I can't ask you to do that again, not when I don't even remember you. Plus, there're a bunch of other people who'll need a guide if this door ends up emptying out the City.

What makes you think I can't handle all of them? Giving you VIP treatment doesn't preclude me from taking care of all the other people who need me, too.
