║ ninety-fifth stanza ║ anonymous / action

in the city:

[ Words have appeared overnight, written in large, bold chalk letters, on the side of a building just off the square. ]

a voice is not a sound
not noises that you make
but words you breathe to life
and meaning that resonates

[ When it went up, or who put it there... who knows? ]

action:

[ Today, Todd is at the library - just a usual day working. He managed not to get too many unwanted kisses yesterday - though he and Neil did take advantage of the curse. Even for the boy who's still so shy even after having opened up considerably, there's an exhilaration to being so free with affections he still can't shake the feeling of being forbidden, to hiding in plain sight under the cover of the curse.

He goes about his business, helping those who need it as they try to hunt down books despite the library's tricks, filing things away as well he can, maybe even sharing a few words about one book or another. He's also listening - nervously, more anxious than eager - to hear if anyone happens to mention noticing the verse near the square. ]

[Jimmy's noticed the poetry that appeared in the square, and he finds that he's eager to discuss it with someone. That's why, when he can't find a book he's looking for, he's halfway approaching Todd to ask about that, and halfway liable to bring up having seen the poetry on the building.]

Hey. You think you can help me find somethin'? This library's always got me confused -- I never can find what I'm lookin' for.

Well, I'm lookin' for some poetry. Coulda sworn that the last time I found poetry books, they were over in that section...

[He nods his head to a corner of the library.]

... but they ain't there anymore.

Yeah, but if that's the case, how d'you ever get the specific books you want? I mean, if you can't think about 'em directly.

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll give that a shot. In the meantime, though, you able to help me find some poetry, or somethin'?

Well, my intention was to look for somethin' by TS Eliot, but... y'know, I'll take whatever it offers, since I figure it'll probably be good anyway.

Yeah, hey, y'know, that's not bad. I'll take Ezra Pound. Better'n I ever end up with. You've got a knack for this.

[He really is impressed. This library always strikes him as so difficult to navigate.]

Well, I didn't read nearly as much poetry before I showed up here, either. Y'know, there's more time to do it around here.
