[ Functioning. It applies to both his own body, and the communications device, but sadly not his powers. He'd worn himself out trying to zap himself back out of this miserable existence, and now Q was suffering--suffering from a bruised ego, a sore head, and - perhaps most unfairly - a grazed knee. Mortal, but not not Q. Trapped, but not wholly aware how. And the ticking of the clock is making his headache worse. A most disagreeable state of affairs. And now here's his face, at first much too close to the camera, and then withdrawn to a more reasonable distance, revealing Voyager era command red, and four pips at his collar. Not for a moment does his scowl subside. ]

Oh, I'm sure you think you're very clever. Do you have any idea who I am? You'd be well advised to send me back where I came from immediately. Otherwise--well, I can't be held responsible for what might happen. [ Not from him. Oh, no. But the Continuum might have something to say about it. Or his family. At least he hadn't actually fallen into the fountain. He'd come close, but with at least some small part of his once magnificent power available, he'd saved himself the splash at the last second. He leans back, inspects the fingernails of his left hand disinterestedly. ]

Well? Hurry up. I haven't got all day. I'm getting bored.

[Wow. Excuse you, Q. Not like you're of any use ever.]

With all due respect, Captain Picard, I know my job and I do my job well to the best of and beyond my abilities. [Or desires in this case.] This is an everchanging temporal anomaly. Nothing is for sure within the day, much less in the next five minutes. Whatever number or names I give you would and could be incorrect and that's not a report I want to submit.

[Uhura idly wonders if she could ever convince Spock to nerve pinch a captain for her.]

That said, I thought we discussed that you were merely from our future, not an alternate universe.

[ Captain Picard. He's Captain Picard. And a magnificent creature of incredible genius. Of course he was Picard! What a brilliant ploy! Oh yes. Yes. What a magnificent Q he was! ]

And yet how else am I to know whether any of my own crew are here, if not for names, however redundant they might be?

[ He folds his arms again, considering her quietly. ]

I'm not from an alternate universe. That would be a burden for your captain to bear, not me.

To us, your universe is the alternate.

Oh pssh. That's not the way it works at all. Alternate universes are called alternate for a reason. They exist until action is taken to resolve the timeline, that's all.

[ So reassuring, Q. ]

And if they aren't resolved--well, someone must clear up all that clutter. It can't just be left to lie around indefinitely.

That's it. She's had enough. Her patience is wearing thin and she's only human. This conversation needs to end and she needs to go find Spock and slam down a chess piece or two or better yet, indulge in some retail therapy. This week has been just too much.]
