9th; Video

[The image on the screen shows the (Second) Doctor in the library, scanning some titles on the shelves. He pulls out a book and scans through all the pages.]

Not the most original escape plan. Still, it does work for the plot. I wonder if anyone could recommend a good title.

Yes. Well, there are certain books my lot tend to keep under very tight lock and key. I should hope there aren't copies of them anywhere else.

Dangerous? Like could they steal your soul and place in their pages?

Perhaps...if they're old enough, I wouldn't be surprised if they had such properties.

I've heard of books like that before. In stories.

[And Alec reappears,looking triumphant and holding a thin book bound in leather.]

Hah! I found one.

[Jumps a little startled.]

Good heavens. I could use some advance warning. I'm not as young as I used to be.

But not as old as you're going to be.

[Alec says that almost absently.]

But I apologize. I didn't mean to startle you.

[Laruna takes the book.]

Which did you find? Oh! The fairy tales one that momma used to read to us.

[Wonders what the boy meant.]

Ah yes. I remember reading fairy tales to my granddaughter. She was quite fond of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

[He's going to get older, obviously. He's not dead yet.]

You don't look old enough to have a granddaughter.

[That was from Laruna.]

Thank you, but yes I am much older than I look.

[To Alec.]

You may be right about me getting much older. I'm afraid to say my dress sense doesn't improve I don't think.

Then you look good for your age. And you dress nicely too [She says.] Once you hit a certain age I think you're allowed to dress how you wish. Sadly [Her brother gets a bit of a disapproving look with his miss-matched era clothing - Victorian with jeans...] some people never get any sort of fashion sense.

[This gets him to laugh.]

It's better than velvet jackets and frills.

[Both of them make a face at that, clearly agreeing with his assessment.]

Who would wear that?

[They actually say that at the same time.]

[Decides to spare them the details about regeneration and his next incarnation.]

Oh, this fellow I met once. Bit of a dandy I suppose.

[Alec knows about regeneration but he doesn't say anything to that point. He's been around more than his sister. Instead he just flips through the fairy tale book.]

Maybe. [Laruna looks thoughtful.] Or perhaps he had someone he was trying to make happy by dressing like that.

What would give you that idea?

[She points to her brother.]

I have done that to my brothers on more than one occasion. Boys can be very bad when it comes to picking out clothes.

Oh, I'm sure that isn't always the case.

No, of course not always but still.

Boys will be boys, especially when they're young and full of rebellious energy.

[Laruna pats Alec on the head.] And sometimes they never grow out of it.

[Alec rolls his eyes.]

What ever for? More fun that way.

That's what I say, but no one ever listens to me.

[Laruna snorts.]

That is because you're a twit.

[Doesn't want to see them bickering.]

Now, now. I'm sure there's no need for that.

[They stop as quickly as they started. It was mostly in jest anyway.]

Not really, just force of habit. [Laruna grins at Alec who shrugs and smiles.] Do you have any siblings?

[Looks uncomfortable.]

Well, I'm not as...close with my family as I probably should be. Running away from home probably didn't help much either.
