[To anyone in the Glass City, this post will be full of static and stalling and generally difficult to completely make out. Rita's in the shade of some rocks, wiping sweat out of her eyes.]

Okay. Monsters I can deal with. But it's hot...And-

[She cuts herself off as there's a scraping noise overhead, and immediately smirks at some kind of lizard-like monster.]

Hmph! Another one? You don't know when to stop messing with me!

[She steps back, preparing to cast a spell-

And then the golden choker around her neck abruptly disintegrates into sand. Rita freezes and stares in silent shock at the sand that trickles down her clothing. Her blastia--her source of magic--just disappeared, and so did pretty much all her ability to defend herself along with it.]

You're...you're kidding me--this can't-

[There's more scraping, several low hissing noises, and the video blurs as Rita spins to see more of the large lizards surrounding her. Her voice is much less confident now as she shouts at them.]

No! Get out! Get away from me!

Stop-!

[And then it cuts out.]

[The most he could make out was something about hot, then obviously a monster appeared, and something clearly went wrong. Worry. Fret.]

Rita-san?! What happened? Are you alright?! Rita-san?

[ Tyr has never been more horrified at a broadcast than he has been now. Not since Luc died, at least. Although it's not an entirely clear, he knows when her blastia disappeared. It was clearly glinting in the sunlight. He immediately sends a message. ]

Ri--

[ And it cuts out. He tries again- ]

Rita, hey, answer me! Ar--

[ Cut out number two. ]

I'm com--

[ Number three. If she's watching the video, she might be able to tell by the way his hair is tossed back that he's running. Also getting progressively more annoyed and desperate. ]

Just hold on!

[She's panicking right now. Right now, she's not with her friend, but she intended to go back to her side as soon as she healed some people. And she saw that blastia turn into sand on there.

Estelle knows she needs to get there QUICKLY.

Running as fast as she could, she has the feed on if only to figure out her destination, using the GPS to find her current destination. Running, running, running, she's breathless, fueled by pure adrenaline at this moment.]

Hold on Rita, I will be right there!

[There's panic in her voice as it turns shrill, high pitched. Everything will be okay, she'll get there in time...

...she hopes.]

[She manages to turn her device back on at some point, but there's just a glimpse of blood before she drops it so that all it shows is sand.]

My...my magic was...

[His response isn't much: a distorted video that just shows sand. And maybe it's just the wind or maybe there's a nearby whisper of Tyr's name.]

Your magic? What happened with it? Where is the monster?

[He isn't sure if the static just cut her off, or if she didn't finish her sentence. And then there's intermediate glimpses of sand between static after that.]

...are you okay?!

[Rita's video doesn't show much besides sand anymore, seeing as she dropped the device. She wants to tell Estelle to stay away, or be careful, or...something...

And when Estelle gets there, the lizards will have moved on to other prey--because Rita's gone, lying bloodied and torn in the sand. Dead.]

[ Maybe he's hearing things; he wouldn't be surprised if he did just imagine her saying his name. The audio and video are too distorted to tell that his voice is shaking. ]

I said hold on! Pick- pick up your device!

[ Because...she just dropped it in the sand while she was running away, right? That has to be it. ]

[She doesn't manage any words for a response--just a choked intake of breath between the static.]

[There's a brush of sand--maybe the wind again, or maybe her attempt to grasp at it. But other than that, the video never changes...Clearly she just ran away and couldn't come back for the device, right?]

[She finds her location, but... it's too late.]

Rita! [She lets out a blood curdling scream, as she immediately makes to cast a reviving spell, however it proves unsuccessful. She's...

...dead.

Dropping her her knees, her device, sword, and shield fall to the sand as she stares at her friend's lifeless body. If only she hadn't gone, she would have been there in time and...

and...

The least she can do is try to take her body back to the safe zone, but the moment she does that, Rita's body disintegrates into sand on her.]

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

[She's in hysterics now, at a complete loss what to do as all she can do is stare at the blood staining the sand...

...this...

...

...

She doesn't even know what to do. She's completely frozen as she decides she should probably tell Tyr... yes. He... deserves to know.]

Rita-san?

[No, no, no. That can't be! She'll be alright. She has those healing artes she was talking about the other day. She'll be fine. She'll respond later, when she can. When she's healed. Everything's going to be fine.]

[ He wouldn't blame her if she didn't. She should run away if things get too much for her to handle--he told her that before, and she'd listen to him, right?

It doesn't make him feel any better. When the device cuts out again, he doesn't bother to reestablish a connection. She won't pick up and he'll find her soon enough.

He's just crying because the glass is shining light in his eyes. ]

[She's calmer than most--it's in her nature--but it's easy enough to guess that Rita needs help, badly. Her message is short and to the point, and her expression serious to match.]

Where are you?

You stupid little girl...

[It was over pretty quickly. Her device is on again but laying face-down in the sand, and although Rita hears the question, she can't get out much of an answer.]

Es...

[Estelle...she was with Estelle.]

[Rita would so have a snarky reply to that...

If she had it in her to reply at all. This is one time she just can't do it.]

[Well, that's not a good sign.]

I'm on my way.

[For what's it's worth. She'll end the conversation now. Okay device, let's see if we can get you to tell us where Rita is.]

Rita…?

[It was hard to tell just what had happened through the blur of sand and static. Maybe she had escaped? He hoped she had… ]

Rita?!

[ :( ]

[He doesn't get a proper reply, just a video of sand as her device lays still.]

Damn it-

[He can't make it out. He can't see any of it. He can hardly make it out-- but.]

[He won't get an answer this day--just sand, the wind, and total silence from Rita.]

[Like anyone else, Klarth's in shock as well.]

[Turns it off to go look for her.]

[Her device doesn't show anything but sand and there's no word from Rita--until tomorrow, when she wakes up again.]
