Are you sure it’s on? I don’t see the—oh! Thank you, that makes a lot of sense, actually. You have a good day, too!

[After a momentary blackout (caused, no doubt, by a hand over the lens), a pale woman with red hair comes into view. Her sheepish smile is largely overshadowed by the considerable amount of blood on her blouse.]

Hey there. I’m Penny, I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing, and I definitely don’t know where I am—which is completely okay because I think I just died…? [she shakes her head, flustered] I know, that sounds totally insane, sorry. I promise I’m not a crazy person, just… you know, kind of confused.

[She pauses, thinking.]

Um. Does anyone know what’s going on? Or where I could get a new shirt, maybe?  This was a cute top, too...

I'm Curt. I dunno how to explain exactly but you were here before, so I know you, only I guess you don't remember. But you helped me out when I first got here, so I owe you one. Maybe more than one.

That'd be really sweet of you. I'm by a huge fountain right now, if that's any help with the locating?

Yeah, I know where that is, but you're probably going to want to wait inside for me somewhere.

Right. Inside. [Because there's snow. Duh.] This nice guy named Steve said he'd take me somewhere safe. "Safe" is probably inside, I think.

Okay, just tell me where you end up. The Welcome Center is definitely a safe place to go. Is there anything you need besides a shirt?

I don't know if that's where he has in mind, but I'll tell you.

You know, I think a shirt'll do for now. Thinking about the longterm... not quite ready for that. Thank you, though--really.

[And the Welcome Center is indeed Penny's destination. She'll be hanging out there, reading the helpful literature...]

[Curt pokes his head in the door. He's in a large secondhand parka and jeans, nothing too outlandish today, and carrying a bag.]

Penny?

[Penny smiles at Curt like he's not a complete stranger.]

Hey! Curt, right?

Action;

Yeah. That's me. I brought you a few things, I probably won't need them again anyway.

[Curt fails to explain this statement, which might be just as well considering the two shirts are from his "in case of genderswitch" stash. One is a red blouse, very low cut, and the other is a white tank top because Curt can't picture Penny wearing the first thing without some layering. Well, he can, but--anyway.]

There's also a jacket but I kind of stole it from Stephen.

Thank you so, so much, Curt. I'd hug you right now if I wasn't all... y'know. And kind of? Should I look for this guy and give it back?

[Penny's still smiling, so that was probably meant teasingly. Maybe. She takes the clothes gratefully, being careful not to get them bloody.]

I don't think he'll mind. It's his fault for leaving it at my place anyway. Are you set for now?

Well, let me know if he ever needs it back, especially since it's cold out.

I'm good, I think. They have beds here and everything, so...

[So Penny is going to be awkward for a moment. She offers Curt her hand.

Meeting you all over again was nice. Maybe we could do it again? Not meeting, I mean, more... hanging out, or something?

Totally. [Curt clasps her hand tightly more than shakes it and grins.] I'll get Stephen to cook dinner or something. And you should come hear my band...at least as soon as we get another gig.

That'd be nice, and that's so cool that you have a band. What kind of music is it?

Rock. It's called Time Bomb. We kind of need some members at the moment, but we put out an album and everything.

Time Bomb... were you thinking about the carousel when you named it? I've heard some things about a doomsday clock or something.

An album? Like, one I could go buy? And I'd offer to help with your not-having-members thing, but I'm pretty sure you don't need a violinist.

Pretty much, all the ticking and stuff. I dunno if it's a doomsday clock or what, but there is a clock, or so I hear.

Yeah, it's available in stores and everything. Well, a few stores. But you just got here and have no money--it's crazy and rainbow, did you see?--so here.

[Curt totally has a copy on him. And since they just used other-Penny's logo for the album artwork Curt would feel weird about her having to buy a copy.]

[She smiles like she just won a large cash prize.]
