I will admit envying Thor his ability to slip the noose of every situation and leave all others at the gallows awaiting their fate while he remains without guile for the ease at which he moves through life, so often at the expense of others.

Though, I likewise admit to interest in what this place is, how it is kept between realms, how access is barred save for those who know how to pass between the borders. Have any of the other forced inhabitants here illumination to shed on the subject? Even theories would be acceptable, I do miss intelligent discourse, so hard to find in any realm.

['So hard to find in any realm'. Rude.]

Your ability to charm rivals Fandral's, Loki.

Such compliments. [D r y as a desert.]

My, is someone taking commentary on their charm so personally? It was but an observation.

[She scrunches up her nose at that snide remark.

Like, okay she started it, but can we not. Talk about the D.]

Given the sheer amount of knowledge to even conceptualize the idea of creating a fixed position in the time space continuum with its own system for transdimensional access in a variety of multiverses, clearly it boils down to either science or magic. And since science is basically magic that hasn't been explained yet...

Well, I guess that doesn't really answer your question. I'm assuming that whomever controls the City has access to some pretty amazing technology and is probably doing whatever they can to prevent others from reaching their level.

[You said you wanted intelligent discourse, Silvertongue.]

[Lydia cocks her head to the side. You are intriguing sir, and she wants to subscribe to your newsletter.]

My mortality is actually up for debate lately. But you're actually misconstruing the nature of science. Science isn't a thing that's generated, it's a process by which we discover the world around us. You say magic is the manipulation of energy via your will - well, science would be a means by which we would come to understand the process by which the invocation of your will results in the desired result. Science has its tools, but then I've seen a lot of cases in which so does magic. Spells, magic wands, invocations, that sort of thing, right? How is it any different from beakers, formulas, and the Large Hadron Collider?

I see your point though, about dimensional displacement. If there is a space that exists outside the flow of time and well, space, that would probably be less costly in terms of energy. But within the pocket that's created, time and space still have to flow forward and I can't imagine that isn't costly.

A banshee. I have no idea what if any effect being one will have on my aging process or my longevity.

[She shrugs.] My point is, tools are tools, regardless of what you use them for.

Something has to push time forward inside our bubble, even if they're not expending energy to keep this place as a fixed point. Things were...calm, when I was taken, but there had recently been some serious crazy going on.

I'm Lydia, by the way.

[She snickers a little at the screamer comment, but then,]

Like Loki, trickster and god of fire Loki?

The Carousel might very well be the tool, but I get the feeling few have gotten into its guts. Or those who have didn't understand it very well.

Classic literature isn't something that most public school educations provide a great knowledge of, but Greco-Roman and Norse myth are usually taught in passing. Also, I like to read.

Are you talking about yours, or mine? Mine may be fresh, but I haven't been here very long.

The technology involved here is far beyond the level of what's available at home. At least that I'm made aware of. Who knows what the government actually has in its hands.

People believe in magic a lot less these days. Unless they've actually seen it in action. Most perceive what they don't understand to simply not have a scientific explanation yet, rather than pointing and going 'oooh, magic'.

[personal profile] lefthandedgenius 2013-10-03 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think once the nature of magic is understood, it falls under the purview of science?

What would you expect the government here to do, besides restore order?

I will admit that most of my knowledge of inter-realm theory is gained from one of my co-workers rambling excitedly whenever a scientific journal comes out with an article on it, but I've always thought it was a series of wards. After all, they're designed to keep things in and keep other things out.

This being the deities' home territory they would be able to make wards that others couldn't breach except under certain circumstances.
deadmanbusiness: (I'm Listening)

[personal profile] deadmanbusiness 2013-10-02 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Wards. If by wards you mean a spell created as a barrier to keep one thing in or another thing out. The more powerful the caster the more powerful the ward, especially if done correctly A ward created by a five year old is certainly not going to be able to keep me out however one created by father likely would.

And who is yourself? Are you with the Aseir around here?
deadmanbusiness: (leather coat smirk)

[personal profile] deadmanbusiness 2013-10-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
If they were the original casters. The anonymous group has hinted that the previous set of overlords worked for other people.

You said, "One such as yourself" but I don't know who yourself is, so how can I determine if that's something to be impressed by.

But if you'd like names, I'm Theodred, or Theo.
