[ Scott is currently at the shelter-clinic. Behind him, there are obvious signs of remodeling and construction. He decided to get a jump on the day and to paint the new front desk. He looks a little confused as he addresses the network. ]

Morning, everyone. The clinic's coming along. We're still doing construction but the front desk is put together! [ A smile as he leans out of frame, leans back. He looks around. Huh. ] Hey, has anyone seen two brushes? I bought them yesterday along with paint. But, they seem to be gone? If you took them, it's cool, I just need them back. I only get so much money a month.

[ Which sparks an idea as he takes a seat on the unfinished desk. ]

Also, I've been thinking, when I'm not here I should get a part time job. Is anybody hiring right now? I only have experience at an animal clinic but I'm a quick learner. And I'm stronger than I look. [ A smile. You know, for when... he's a stock boy or something. He's advertising himself, okay? ]

Um, has anyone celebrated their birthday, gotten here, and realized it's just around the corner again? Would this make me 18? Do I skip the year? Lose it? I haven't even been 17 for two months. Should I do something? Can I? [ Is it not allowed. Maybe he'll be seventeen again? ] Just wondering.

[ ooc: Someone has raided the shelter! And taken two brushes and a can of paint. Feel free to admit it's you or to not! ]

Yeah, she's been here for three weeks. Maybe the City likes my family. [ It better leave his dad back there, though. No bueno. ]

That ... might not be such a good thing. The City's notorious for placing its most awful curses on those it 'likes.' [ (That and certain characters' muns might be sadists.) ]

I haven't seen or been in any awful curses yet. Except for all the sickness and that happened because there weren't any curses. What's the worst curse you've been involved in?

[ Just the most embarrassed face ever. ]

Zombie clowns. Wielding chainsaws.

[ DON'T LAUGH IT WAS TERRIFYING ;; ]

That sounds ... like a really bad horror movie.

I ... think that's what they were going for.

Did they attack you or just move really slowly? And probably juggle chainsaws. Slowly. How did that work?

Er.

They seemed pretty cheerful about cutting people with their chainsaws, from what I recall, actually.

How did people keep safe?

Honestly?

A lot of them didn't.

[ It was quite an interesting bloodbath. ]

A few of them did.

But don't worry; no one stays dead for more than 24 hours here.

I heard that if you die here, you can't ever leave here. Is that true?

That's what I've heard.

I guess it's a reminder not to take dying lightly. Even if it isn't permanent.

Dying isn't something that should be taken lightly. [ It's dying. He doesn't like anyone that takes dying lightly. Namely: Gerard. The alphas. Deucalian... But, he doesn't know them. ] Do the curses balance out? For every harmless one, there's a dangerous one? [ Everything balances out, usually. Everything comes together, makes sense, this is his life. ]

Depends on how desperate you are, I guess.

[ Hei's been an assassin since childhood. For him, death is just a side-effect of good business. Or, in his own case, a sign of fatal failure -- either in-field or at the hands of his superiors. Which is why Syndicate operatives learn to avoid mistakes at all costs. ]

I wish I knew. If there were patterns in the curses, they'd be easier to anticipate. But mostly they're just ... random.

Desperate to what, die or stay alive?

[ Scott's not following his train of thought, but he's trying. ]

Sorry you had to go through that.

[ Hei nearly says, There's no difference; they both make easy prey. But 'Li' isn't half as cynical or self-serving. He opts for the default approach instead: ]

[ Wide-eyed idealism. ]

I'd feel terrible for anyone who's desperate to die. [ Nevermind that he's left enough people begging for death, before he's done the honors and eliminated them in one cold sweep. Ducking his head, he shrugs sheepishly, ] It's what everyone in the City goes through,.

[ He wouldn't have been met with a good response.

It's a dark thought process. But, he's been there. He's been desperate to die thanks to wolfsbane and so has Isaac. So has Boyd. ] Maybe we won't always have to.

[ Hei's spent a decade in an organization that prioritizes the upper-hand, that focuses on winning at all costs. He's learnt to regard death as a last twenty kept for an emergency, folded as a pragmatic assurance and tucked away in his mind's pocket. ]

[ But despite the crashing lows he's experienced in his life -- and there've been many -- he's never sought death out. He's too driven for that. ]

I hope so. Although these Anonymous guys don't seem to be making such a difference.

[ Scott wouldn't be able to understand that or respect that. It's a good thing these two keep back what they do. ]

They keep saying it'll take time. I'm not so sure. [ But, nobody is, are they? ]

[ Always a good thing. There's no benefit in showing all your cards. Especially in such a volatile environment. Who knows when you might need the ace (the dagger?) up your sleeve? ]

The fact that they don't share information unless they want to makes it worse. [ A beat, before he recomposes his thoughtful expression into a good-natured smile. (It's a lie, like most things about 'Li.' But honesty isn't exactly a spy's forte.) ] I'm Li Shenshung, by the way. You are?

[ Please to not be using that dagger. The reaction won't be pleasant. ]

They're friendly. They answer questions. I think they let us hear what we want to hear. [ Or what they think we want to hear. The smile is welcomed. He receives a smile in return. ] Scott.

[ Unfortunately, 'Li' is just the superficial candied wrapping around Hei's actual personality. At his core, there's little about him that's pleasant :c ]

They remind me of politicians, that way. [ Truncating real questions and offering cookie-cutter answers. But that's no different from usual, is it? Anyone in a position of relative authority, will try to maintain it all costs. ]

It's nice to meet you, Scott. [ Polite and well-meaning, as always. ] You seem like you're adjusting well to the City. Curses or no.

[ So noted and so shall it be. Scott is very what you see is what you get. Plus, a little inner turmoil/guilt, etc. And a sprig of daddy issues. Though, they haven't bubbled up to the surface yet. ]

I don't follow politics but don't politicians lie? They stretch the truth to get votes. [ He knows there's controversy over Obama. He doesn't really follow it because he has other, hairier problems. ] They're too honest. They keep giving explanations but nothing gets better. [ Compartmentalization? Scott's getting better at that. But, not really, he really is just the sum of all parts. ]

It's nice to [ pretty much meet, all his meetings are across the network now ] meet you, too. [ Truth be told, he feels like he has to. His mom is here now. And as much as that means he's her kid again and he has rules, he's still an omega. He's still a werewolf. If he doesn't get the hang of the City, who will? Stiles and Isaac have no jobs - though Isaac isn't interested in having one. But, he really had no choice. Time stops. He can't do anything back there, he can't GET back, and at first he was letting anonymous deal with that. ] Do I? I'm trying. Keeping busy helps. And I have friends here. And my mom. [ A lot of the time, it's safer than Beacon Hills. ] I miss home. [ He misses Allison. He misses his job. ] But, we all do.
