[ The problem with being pulled into another dimension is that, whatever means by which the pulling is being done, they generally don't particularly care for where you are or what you're doing when they grabs you, nor do they care where you're being dumped. Take, for instance, a young Starfleet Ensign who's been working in his ship's Jefferies tubes. The City certainly doesn't care that he was climbing down a utility ladder connecting one deck's tubes down to another, doesn't care that he's suspended precariously on the rungs, and doesn't care that it's plucking him right off of them.

So it is that he winds up still mid-descent, the starship he was just on quite suddenly gone as he finds himself in the air a few feet above a fountain. Naturally, without the ladder rungs to hold him, he falls with a dramatic splash. The video feed on the network cuts on at this point, as the device he has no idea he's been given falls, hitting the side of the fountain, activating just before it hits the ground.

After a few moments of splashing and groaning, the device catches an upward angle of a very well-soaked Harry Kim as he pulls himself over the side of the fountain, his hair down and sticking to his forehead. His only commentary is muttered to himself, as he examines his surroundings with a confused gaze rather than spare a glance to the ground where the device lay. ]

What now... ?

[ harry's captain is both surprised and not to find him in the fountain. after all, it's just the sort of thing that tends to happen to the unfortunate ensign. but, of course, there are more pressing matters -- she taps her combadge rather than use the device. she doesn't much care for that pink cell phone they gave her, doesn't trust those lines of communication, and is actually not that far away from the fountain. ]

[ In the context of his current situation, he's a little surprised to hear his comm badge spring to life. There's a sense of relief to it, though - maybe this is just another previously unheard of anomaly they've stumbled across and he's not the only one who was just blinked out of where he was. Having hauled himself fully out of the fountain, he taps his combadge, eliciting a light squishing sound from his uniform. ]

Kim here - though, Captain? I'm not sure where that is, exactly.

[ it wouldn't be the first time they were inexplicably pulled off the ship and dropped off somewhere, whether it be by a naturally occurring anomaly or some member of an alien race sitting behind a console, deliberately pushing the buttons to make that happen. voyager's crew has quite the assortment of "out there" experiences that make being here not as surprising or alarming as it should be. ]

I'll explain that when I get there. [ the sound of her heels clicking against the pavement can be heard in the background, the captain walking briskly in the direction of the operations officer who has no idea he's just become de facto third in command. ] In the meantime, I need you to remove rank, insignia, and your colors.

[ said in a clear captainly tone of "don't ask questions, just do it." it will make sense later, harry. trust her. ]

[ Harry knows that tone when he hears it, so he's already wrenching his sole pip from his collar when he replies in the only way there is to respond to that tone. ]

Understood.

[ After he plucks his comm badge off, the jacket follows, and he rolls the gold top into itself so all it looks like is plain black fabric. ]

[ good boy, harry. she's very pleased to find him looking simply like some poor fellow who toppled into a fountain versus an obviously drenched starfleet officer. she takes him by the elbow when she makes her approach from behind, steering him in the direction of the city labs where chakotay is to meet them with towels and clothes for him to change into. with harry's luck, he'd get a cold on top of all this, and she'd like to avoid exposing them to outdated medical practices, even if doctor mccoy is on the hospital staff and would be tending to all starfleet officers before anyone else had the chance to so much as glance at them. ]

It's Kathryn while we're in public, Harry. [ still with that captain's tone of voice in spite of the use of first names and the lack of uniform. ] We're in a city that I believe is situated at the heart of some kind of quantum fissure.

[WELL. That was certainly something.

Pai stands a feet away from the Fountain, blatantly staring at poor, soaked Harry. She doesn't laugh outright, mostly because she's not the type of person to laugh at all, but her lips twitch in obvious amusement.

Sorry, dude. No sympathy from this kid.]

[ He pulls himself out, sparing a glance with a tight little smile at the amused, staring girl.

He'd be more annoyed, but he's pretty sure it's hilarious from an outside perspective. ]

Guess I made an entrance.

[She has no reason to help this strange man, or interact with him at all. But she doesn't have any reason to leave him in the dust either. It's a cointoss which she'll do.]

You can get a dry change of clothes at the Welcome Center.

[Congratulations. She's feeling helpful.]

[ Well that's interesting. He tries to shove his hair off his face, but some of it is still stuck. ]

Sounds like this sort of thing must happen a lot.

[ He catches a glimpse of that uniform (so weird and formal compared to their own in the 23rd Century) an hour or so after the broadcast. That's what being a busy guy can do for you, you turn your back and Starfleet officers are dropping out of the sky. The privacy function is practically second-nature by now, at least for all individuals that Khan might target by proxy of their affiliation. Jim doesn't want to flag up any arrivals, although his appearance of Some Guy In A Tee And Leather Jacket isn't precisely enough to scream Federation allegiance right off the bat in any degree. ]

Eight out of ten, poor landing. [ Pips. Hm. Since Kathryn has the most, he's going to assume this guy's ... Wait. He's sure he's met him before, the same way he ran into Tom Paris that weekend. ] Hey, buddy, you okay?

[ He definitely doesn't scream Starfleet, but by this point neither does Harry, his soaked uniform now well out of the picture for some nice, dry civilian gear. ]

Fine, thanks. Though I guess I'll have to work on my form for the next time I get snagged out of my reality.

[ Smart guy; the absence of those colors speaks as much for his involvement with Starfleet as if they were still there. ]

At least the ride in didn't make you queasy. Has your captain found you yet?

[ it's practically a habit now, to private his video feeds, or if he so desires to speak public, it'll be on text, because what he has to say isn't for the whole world ( or just khan, really) to see, really.

[ One wet, sheepish smile. By now his uniform jacket is gone, as well as his pip and comm badge. Not because they're important, of course, just taking off his wet jacket. ]
