[The (Second) Doctor has been wandering around for some time and has found himself on the beach. He’s decided to make the most of this by shrugging off his coat and building a sand castle or two while watching the surf and enjoying the pleasant day. The Doctor’s concentrating hard on the one he’s building.]

It’s always the spires that are the most difficult. Sand can be very delicate, so I must be very careful—otherwise all this work will be for not.

[Laughs as he carves out another wall leading up to a spire.]

Ah, this is good. Yes, I think it’s really starting to take shape now.

[The Doctor's had enough. He's going to put his foot down.]

Now listen, I don't know what you're talking about or what your problem is! Perhaps if you calm down we can talk about this rationally. You're acting like a crazed lunatic!

[Kneels back down to the ground.]

[missrosetyler]

You know what, Doctor. You're right absolutely right. I shouldn't' be talking to you.

[She starts to get to her feet.]

I should be talking to them.

Do you have any idea how difficult it was to get the spires just right?

[He looks like he's on the verge of tears as he wipes his face, leaving sand smeared on one side.]

Oh dear, oh dear. All that work. And it was so close to being finished.

[He gives a deep sigh, and looks defeated.]

You're the Doctor though. You can do anything cause you're brilliant. Unlike some other people.

[Lets some sand go through his hand.]

Now I don't really feel like rebuilding it. It was such a pleasant memory, too.

[Tosses some sand in frustration.]

Ruined. I only wanted to enjoy the beach and build sandcastles. It was supposed to be a nice diversion.

Pleasant memory like with River?

It's always got to be about you doesn't it?

Who? No, it isn't about me. It's about Susan. My little Susan. I had no idea how much I missed her until now.

[missrosetyler]

So if you've got a granddaughter, yeah Then you've got to have a son or daughter, yeah?

I haven't thought about my family since I left home.

[missrosetyler]

You must miss them, yeah?

Sometimes. Well, what does it matter to you? I don't know what I said to set you off, but there was really no need for that.

[seconddoctor_cia]

[He doesn't look at her. He starts gathering some sand together.]

Perhaps I could try something less complex.

[missrosetyler]

What about a TARDIS?

First you ruin my sand castle and now you mock me? Your lack of civility is astounding, Miss Tyler.

[missrosetyler]

I'm not mocking.

Now you're sounding like him.

[seconddoctor_cia]

Well whatever issues you have with your boyfriend or whatever he is, kindly leave me out of it.

[Goes back to work.]

I keep telling you--

[Starts to kick sand around.]

I don't.

[seconddoctor_cia]

[Pointedly ignores her, and mutters to himself.]

Susan liked sand castles when she was little.

[Gives a sad smile.]

[missrosetyler]

[Looks over at him for a moment and decides to just let him be. She turns her back and walks off muttering under her breath.]

Time Lords...

[seconddoctor_cia]

[Sees her walking off.]

Just as well.
