[The (Second) Doctor has been wandering around for some time and has found himself on the beach. He’s decided to make the most of this by shrugging off his coat and building a sand castle or two while watching the surf and enjoying the pleasant day. The Doctor’s concentrating hard on the one he’s building.]

It’s always the spires that are the most difficult. Sand can be very delicate, so I must be very careful—otherwise all this work will be for not.

[Laughs as he carves out another wall leading up to a spire.]

Ah, this is good. Yes, I think it’s really starting to take shape now.

[Rose is not really paying attention to her surroundings. She's been so focused on the dimension jumper in her hand and her thoughts that it takes the sound of the waves to alert her to her new surroundings.

She looks down at the sand by her boots and sighs. A beach of all places. She pockets her device and looks up when she hears the laughter. A very familiar face is up ahead and she's not going to pass up the chance to chat with him.

Rose makes her way towards the Second Doctor and eyes what he's building.]

A bit impressive.

Oh, it's you! Yes, well, I think it is quite impressive. The real thing is even more so.

[Looks her up and down.]

And where did you run off to earlier?

[missrosetyler]

Where is it?

[She keeps staring at it amazed.]

I had some things to take care of. How have you been?

[seconddoctor_cia]

It's Akhaten! One of the largest melting pots of the universe. A very lovely place. I haven't been there in a while.

[missrosetyler]

Akhaten? Don't think I've ever been. What's it like?

[seconddoctor_cia]

I'm alright, how have you been? Sit down, please. I could use some company at the moment.

[Laughs to himself. He's having a very pleasant time.]

[missrosetyler]

I've been okay I suppose. Keeping busy and all that.

[She sits down next to him.]

Enjoying yourself then?

[seconddoctor_cia]

Oh yes, quite.

[Starts forming the sand behind the structure to create a mountain.]

I think it's nearly finished. So you haven't been there, you say?

[missrosetyler]

That's good. Do you need any help?

[Watches him.]

Nope. Never been. Never been to Barcelona either.

[seconddoctor_cia]

Oh that's a nice city as well. No, no, I can manage. Akhaten was one of the first places I visited. We enjoyed it immensely.

[missrosetyler]

If you say so.

Who did you take?

[seconddoctor_cia]

My granddaughter.

[missrosetyler]

You...had a granddaughter?

[seconddoctor_cia]

[Touches up a spire.]

Yes.

[He smiles, remembering.]

[missrosetyler]

You never did tell me. I mean you mentioned being a dad once...

[Mutters under her breath.]

River.

[seconddoctor_cia]

Pardon? No, I haven't seen a river here, but there's a nice ocean there if you're up for a swim.

[missrosetyler]

Of course not.

Not really a fan of anything water. So what was she like, your granddaughter?

[seconddoctor_cia]

Very energetic, and eager to learn.

[Finally looks up a her.]

Is something the matter?

[missrosetyler]

How old was she?

[Rose looks down at the sand.]

No, everything's okay I suppose. Why do you ask?

[seconddoctor_cia]

You had a look on your face. Never mind. You probably would have thought her about sixteen or so. Slightly older than that, but still quite young by my standards.

[missrosetyler]

Sixteen? That's nice. Must've been nice.

[seconddoctor_cia]

It was. Perhaps one day when you have children you can know what it is to visit some place with them. Or visit some place with someone at least.

[missrosetyler]

Yeah, I'd take them to Barcelona. The planet not the city.

[She just laughs for a moment before again muttering under her breath.]

Reckon River was happy with seeing dogs with no noses.
