Laruna can be spotted stalking around town with a gentleman with a black eye following her. The man looks enough like her that it's easy to see that they're siblings, but he's got pointy ears on him unlike Laruna.]

Yes. Everyone in our family are wizards. We're like an alien race. [He pauses.]

Actually, we are an alien race since we're not from earth. Unless Earth suddenly got two moons when I wasn't looking. I don't think it did...

Where is your home planet? Can it be reached from Earth--or most versions of Earth--or is it in another dimension?

That's a good question, actually. I'm not really sure of the answer to it.

I know that five thousand years ago there was an inter-dimensional breach where these people built a portal and were able to come to our world. Their technology was much more advanced than ours was. Definitely closer to yours than us. They had satellites even. But the portal was eventually sealed off... but there's been smaller rips to other worlds that pop up occasionally.

I imagine one could potentially go to Earth, but I've never seen one do that before.

So... honestly, I don't know.

Do these rips happen often, and are they related to technology or to magic? Technology that is sufficiently advanced to create targeted rifts in spacetime would be remarkable, and beyond even what is available in my time! Perhaps it even operates on the same principles as whatever pulls us to this City...

From what I know, which really is kind of hazy. The people I learned it from have gotten it second or fifty-seventh handed knowledge.

The rifts are caused by ...mm... backlash from when the original portal was closed. It's a sort of cross between technology and magic. Anti-matter and matter getting all happy together? Sort of?

Currently they're opening up at random, to random locations. There's nothing that we can tell that causes them to open.

As for the same thing as what pulls you to the City... mm... no... I don't think so.

That is disappointing. But, if you knew the secrets to unrestricted and targeted interdimensional travel, I don't think that you would be allowed to share that knowledge in the City.

I know a version of such thing but it wouldn't work for anyone else. Just me. Even the there's limits to what I can do.

Er. No. That's been sort of added on. You meet a couple of deity like folks by going through the wrong rip in time and they decide to give you ridiculous powers for shits and giggles.

Yes. I cannot stay dead. I cannot get rid of this power. And half the time I cannot control this power. I cannot control if I'll leave home without warning. Or where I'll end up or how long I'll stay there.

Except for the fact that I out live everyone I knew and my own world. And I do die and it hurts like a bitch most of the time before coming back to life.

It's pretty much what happens when you live with someone your entire life and you get to know ALL their obnoxious little annoying habits and they just grate on your nerves and yet you live with each other and can't actually leave to go somewhere else because you're too young...

Surely not every set of siblings can be annoyed with each other? And you can travel across dimensions! Can't you leave if you get annoyed?

Oh, we're not annoyed with each other all the time. Just...think of it as... like your shipmates?
