[trenchknives]

[Jimmy's walking down the street near the fountain, uncharacteristically bright smile on his face. It's obvious he doesn't know he's recording this, since he's not at all paying attention to the camera. His pace speeds up a little as he heads towards the fountain, the tone in his voice full of amusement as he calls out.]

Hey, Tommy, c'mon, I'm not gonna chase you!

[That is, however, exactly what he starts doing. There's a little kid running in front of him, a boy of about four, who seems completely unconcerned with the fact that he's in a new and unusual place. He's running, giggling, holding onto a bag of candy, and Jimmy's following behind him as closely as he can.]

All right, all right, slow down! You're too fast for your dad, kiddo.

[The little boy sits down on the edge of the fountain and pops a piece of taffy into his mouth. Eventually, Jimmy sits down beside him, brushing the little boy's hair out of his eyes. The little boy looks up at him, looking serious for a moment, and asks "Where's mommy?"]

Well, y'know...

[Jimmy pauses for a minute, slightly uncomfortable, and then grins down at the kid.]

We're on a little vacation, just you 'n me, okay? Just the guys. Mommy's at home, workin' on her paintin', and y'know she can't get anythin' done when we're havin' this much fun.

[He ruffles Tommy's hair, then immediately realizes his device is on, and switches it off with a bit of a sheepish smile.]

[[OOC: Jimmy's son is here for the fourth wall, and you can run into Jimmy and Tommy around the fountain, or anywhere else in town, really!]]

[He's rubbing his arm. She has a strong punch.]

I doubt it. She's got no taste.

[Then he neatly sidesteps the punch to his leg.]

Neither do you, Alec.

I dunno about that; she's made some pretty good choices while she's been here.

[It's not a cocky grin, exactly. But it's close.]

[Alec has a long sword. It's sharp. Well, he's not going to threaten Jimmy or say bad things about him in front of his kid. That'd be bad. Alec's not that horrible.]

I'd ask about your intentions and everything like that but I know that'd be a bit of a pointless thingy here. And I also know that you have actually be awfully nice to her and that she likes you

[Side steps again.]

A lot as a friend. Among other things. [Mutters something about lousy timing.]

[trenchknives]

I wouldn't be too worried about my intentions.

[He gives a meaningful glance down at his son, as though to indicate not to say anything around him.]

No. I know. Even with your day job.

[Stupid children. Making it nearly impossible for him to do the threatening thing and Laruna looks like she's enjoying talking with Timmy it's really kinda cute and AGH.]

She's just my sister and I want to make sure she's okay since I can't be here all the time. Watching really isn't the same, you know?

[trenchknives]

Sure, I guess if I had a sister, I'd wanna watch over her, too.

[He glances at Tommy and Laruna, and then back at Alec, raising an eyebrow.]

Watchin'?

[element_wizard]

[Alec shoves his hands in his pockets and stares up at the sky.]

Yeah. I can see [He waves his hand in the general City citiness] this place even if I can't get here normally.

I can watch it. See what's going on. What's happening to who. Like watching a movie.

Only when you've got these sudden influxes of people can I get through.

[trenchknives]

That must get pretty borin'.

[A pause.]

Well, borin' with moments of excitement, I guess. Some of the curses...

[element_wizard]

You were a cute ... [he hand gestures a woman's body.]

[trenchknives]

[He shakes his head.]

Great, so now I gotta wonder if people outside of the City're seeing me with that kinda shit goin' on, huh?

[element_wizard]

[Alec looks very shifty very quickly.]

[trenchknives]

That's fucked up.

[Those're really the only words he has for it.]

[element_wizard]

Actually there are worse places to be stuck in. Trust me on this one.

[He waves a hand and there's a brief ripple in the air so Laruna can't hear what he's saying because there's no way he wants her to hear this]

I was stuck in this one place... some post-apocalyptic Vegas thing where the general enjoyment was forcing guys to have sex with other guys.

[trenchknives]

[He'd rather his kid didn't hear what Alec was saying, too, thank you very much. The look on his face is nothing short of horror.]

The... there was... why?

[element_wizard]

[The barrier will work for both of them. Alas not for Jimmy.]

Because apparently it was hilarious! I don't fucking know! I was just stuck there for three months. People can be sadistic sometimes. Fuck or die! Stupidest thing that's happened to me!

[Tommy notices nothing of Alec's ranting. Nor does Laruna.]

[trenchknives]

[Why did you have to bring this kind of thing to his knowledge, Alec? He'd been perfectly happy knowing nothing about a world like that, and now he has to worry about it being a possibility. After all, if he can get stuck here...]

Fuck, 'n I thought it was bad here. Guess I ain't gonna be complainin' as much anymore.

[That's a lie. He'll still complain.]

[BECAUSE HE LIKES SHARING THE PAIN. HE LIKES SHARING THE PAIN.]

This place is pretty cool comparatively. I mean, I wouldn't mind hanging about longer than the couple of days I'm allowed.

[trenchknives]

You'd get over that feelin' pretty quickly, I can tell you.

[element_wizard]

I guess so. [He glances at his sister, still oblivious.]

She's been taking it all right. But she doesn't have that much experience with these things.

You've got a hellavalot more life experience than she does.

[trenchknives]

That so? I'll keep that in mind. She seems to take care of herself pretty well, though.

[element_wizard]

Yeah. But... I mean... she's never really had anything bad happen to her. We're nobility back home. Rich. Sheltered. Never really had to work for anything. Never saw anything bad. It happens to other people.

Here bad things can happen to her and I can't be here to protect her. Which is frustrating.

[trenchknives]

Yeah, but y'know, there're people here who care about her, too. I mean, sure, they ain't her brother, but she does okay.

[element_wizard]

[What he wants to do is yell something like, 'yes but you're all human and can't do anything about it' but that really doesn't help much. And it would require more awkward explaining. So he settles for...]

Good. I'm glad. Someone should. She's a good person. I'm not.

[trenchknives]

Yeah, well, join the club, but you're right, I guess she probably is a good person.

She hasn't had to make horrible choices like we have.
