Hey.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know exactly what the ticking thing is? The point of it all? I realize it's a clock and seems to be linked the merry go round in the center there, but does anyoe know anything else about it?

Hey. Meyer! We need to talk about something real quick and important.

I'm sorry. This is going to sound horribly... well... rude or strange. But your world has magic, right?

[He waits to see if there's any sort of reaction to that before going on.]

I see.
[She's not, well. Cross about it, not even horrified because this is the City and worlds are different. But it's still startling, of course it is, when magic that has anything to do with the dead is Dark in her world and with the war still fresh in her mind (even a year later), it's a hard thing. But.
Evenly, by way of explanation,]
We can't bring back the dead in my world. We're not meant to.

We can't either. [Not technically true. But it's hella hard to do and requires a bunch of skills normal folks just don't have and has only been done successfully a half dozen known times in history.] I can just raise undead. But I was born a necromancer, I wasn't taught it.
Magic is something that everyone in my world has.
[He's getting to his point. Don't worry.]

Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the concept.

As for others, they can learn how to do it, though you need at least a Masters in Necromancy to practice it legally or properly. PhDs are preferred though. Most necromancers tend to work in law enforcement or as detectives. There's a ridiculous amount of paperwork to go through to raise someone from the dead as an undead. Most people can't make anything more than a zombie or a skeleton. They can just talk to the dead. Raising someone from the dead without permission is seriously illegal and you can end up with a long jail sentence.
[It's a job with a shit ton of paperwork involved. Yay!]
