[ There are bruises along her arm as she lifts the device up, dark fingerprints that she should have easily been able to hide. Clary is sitting against the wall of her cell, her hair tangled and her eyes smudged like she's been rubbing at them. Instead of weakness there's something burning inside of her eyes, something fierce. They tried to scare her, but Clarissa Fairchild isn't easily scared. Not when she has blood running through her veins, not when it comes to this. ]

The sandworms took our belongings so they could look at it. [ Her tone doesn't waver, just sits on the edge of angry. Her sketchbook had given her away, the angelic runes that she traced over and over again, the pictures she drew of Ithuriel, Jace lying in the sand. Everything she'd used to work out her pain and now they know she's something else entirely. Because they'd been stopping those with powers just in case. Obviously they think she's part of it.

Now she wishes was. ] You should hide, right now. They just come and they take you and if you don't give them what they want they put you here.

[ Video spanning the cell. ] I was wrong, we shouldn't trust them at all.

( private filter; jace, jem, mae. ) [ Now there's an obvious crack in the steel heart of hers, a hand smudged in dirt trying to push away her hair. ] They took my stele. I can't get out. I tried to scratch a rune with a pencil too but they took that. I ... please don't get caught, okay?

( extra private filter; mae ) Don't let Jace come after me, Mae. I don't know what they'll do.

[There's rage and there's panic and then there's seeing Clary locked up and looking like that and if there was a line to cross, everything has just crossed that line with Mae.]

There has to be a way to get you out.

I'm okay, I promise.

[ She tugs her knee up to her chest, jeans torn. ] They're looking for people who're involved in the revolt. I don't know why they thought I ... [ A pause, a sigh. ]

I'm going to get out of here, I just need time.

You look terrible, Clary. And you're in a cell. If anything, I imagined we'd end up in one from excess partying or maybe running naked on the street, but not for -

[She shakes her head, pressing her lips together.] They're not thinking - they've been persecutting anyone who has a sliver of power.

Mine doesn't even work right half the time. [ A bubble of almost hysteria before she catches it, calms herself. ]

They've swept the cell, there's nothing I can use. I couldn't even scratch a rune if I wanted to, they're not coming to me. [ Breathing slowly. ] I tried to see who else they brought in. But it's dark.

[;_; her baby bff why - she hates seeing her like this. Because whether she knows it or not, Clary has trascended to Family, the kind of family Mae does everything and anything for. Including coming up with ways to break her out of jail.]

Why would they leave you with the devices...?

Because they're dickheads?

[ She doesn't swear often but when she does it's because she's angry. Alec, she'd sworn at him once before, and now here she is again, feeling out of her depth. ]

It's a power play, right? To show anyone thinking of revolting that they can get us. No point taking people if the rest of the place doesn't know about it.

Like sand worms and meteor showers aren't enough of a pissing competition? I think you couldn't have put it better than that.

[A pause.]

It might take a while, but I'll try to get you out. What do you need?

Mae, don't. [ Worry flickering across her features. ] I don't want you to get into trouble because of me.

[This is the face of a person who's not taking no for an answer.]

Too late.

[ She should have known this would happen, that Mae wouldn't sit still just the same way Jace wouldn't. ]

I just ... you're important to me. If you got caught because of me.

You're important to me, as well. And I can't bear to watch you suffer this way, so if I can figure anything out, I will.

Promise me you'll be careful?

I will.

Don't get caught. You're a good roommate but I don't think the cell would suit us.

[Jem is down an alleyway near the Youth Center. He's keeping out for anyone coming after the kids.

His face is concerned on the video.]

Clary, I am going to get to you.

No, Jem. [ She looks young and frightened for a moment. She killed her own father, she should be stronger than this. And yet she isn't. She wants Jace, she wants her mother, Luke, Simon. She doesn't want to be here. ]

You can't, they're bringing everyone in who's different. You have to stay where it's safe.

[Some of the Shadowhunter arrogance is mixed in with Jem's good nature. Still his voice remains gentle.]

It is not in my nature to stay hidden from a fight. I will not leave you in there. Do not ask it of me.

If I did would you stay away?

[ Jem :C ]

[ Watching the feed, Jace freezes for a minute or two until he pulls himself together; she needs him, and he should never have left her alone, not even for a second, because he should have seen this coming.

He doesn't know what to say, what to ask first, when he first starts the feed, and his voice sounds harsh but soft, the anger right beneath the surface ready to leak out. ]

What did they do? [ He's seen the bruises, but he's trying hard not to look. ] I'll kill them for touching you.

Jace. [ Her voice is soft sounding, but with a firm undertone. ] No, I'm fine. I shouldn't have resisted, it's my own fault.

[ Because the bruises are from where she tried to fight back. She needs to be better than this, needs to work harder. ] I'm okay, they just - they just tried to question me. Don't do anything stupid, okay?
