It's C-Sec, the army, or the Reaper War all over again.

This has happened time and time again throughout history and worlds, and no one ever learns.

About what? Those two incidents are the most recent catastrophes in my world.

Wait, you've got a place called the Citadel on your world too? It is a space station too?

[immortal_machine]

Citadel Station was humanity's first external space colony, in orbit around Saturn.

[officer_garrus]

I see. In my world, our Citadel was built by giant malovolent robots and was discovered and rediscovered every fifty-thousand years. Long story.

...Curious. And how did they ensure that it was always discovered? Does it send massive long-term radio pulses or some such, and hope?

[officer_garrus]

Not exactly. The Reapers left other tech across the galaxy, which would ensure that we found the Citadel once a race became spacefaring. The asari were the first to discover it this cycle, and from there the rest of us just caught up to them.

And what was the Citadel's purpose?

[officer_garrus]

It's a giant mass relay. That is, the Reapers use it as a shortcut to our galaxy so they can start their harvest quicker. But in between cycles, it's the heart of galactic civilization.

How clever of them, setting up a massive hub for all species, while rigging it as a trap.

[officer_garrus]

Well, the spacefaring races do spread out across the galaxy, so it usually takes a few centuries to harvest everyone. At least, that's how long it took them to wipe out the previous cycle.

When they operate over thousands of years, a few centuries seems like nothing.

[officer_garrus]

They took the long route this cycle, since my friends and I killed the Reaper they had inside the galaxy and therefor couldn't activate the Citadel. We were still underprepared.
