Just hypothetically, off the top of your heads, do any of you guys know anythin' about dog bites? Y'know, what you should do if a dog bites you, how bad it should be before you go 'n see a doctor, that kinda thing?

[A pause, and there's the sound of a small dog barking in the background.]

Or, um, how to get a dog not to bite you? That'd be good too. Kinda late this time, but maybe for next time.

[A longer pause.]

Actually, do any of the doctors around here wanna tell me if I'm gonna die, or somethin'?

As much as I appreciate the offer, I think lightin' my dog on fire is kinda an overreaction.

You won't die unless your immune system is very poor. Dog bites are blunt punctures and open and tend to bleed, removing infectious agents as long as you don't smother the wounds.

If you're torn open, you'll bleed to death, but you asked about a single bite.

If you mistreat the wound or get it dirty, you can contract sepsis and die, but that is somewhat difficult to do.

For a normal dog bite, you should be fine as long as you aren't foolish about it. Let it bleed a little to get the debris and bacteria out, then wash it with clean water and bandage it with a non-stick material. Clean the bandage if it gets too bloody, and wait until the wound scabs.

If you are bleeding heavily, just go get stitches.

Okay, yeah, that's all good to know, thanks. I think my immune system is okay. It's bleedin' a little, but I don't think I need stitches.

Sure, I cleaned it up a little. Not bleedin' too badly -- not enough to need stitches, I don't think.

Well, he's always erratic in the sense that he's a little shit who bites me for no reason, but if you're askin' if it's possible he's rabid, he's had his shots.

Yeah, I've had him awhile. I dunno how to tell if he's sick -- he's always kinda been an asshole.

You gotta sort of bite back in your own way. Shake a jar of rocks or pennies if he goes for it. The sound will fuck with his head.

I got a couple stitches 'n a tetanus shot. I'm okay. Hurt like hell, though. Didn't know the little fucker had it in him.
