Video

Hey, um...

[When Jimmy turns on the video, he looks somewhere between sheepish, confused, and deeply irritated. And maybe a little in pain.]

Just hypothetically, off the top of your heads, do any of you guys know anythin' about dog bites? Y'know, what you should do if a dog bites you, how bad it should be before you go 'n see a doctor, that kinda thing?

[A pause, and there's the sound of a small dog barking in the background.]

Or, um, how to get a dog not to bite you? That'd be good too. Kinda late this time, but maybe for next time.

[A longer pause.]

Actually, do any of the doctors around here wanna tell me if I'm gonna die, or somethin'?

Scare him! If you're bigger and scarier, animals will be afraid of you. Or if you want me to go burn it up, I can do that.

[Said in a blunt, vaguely condescending voice, as if this should all be obvious.]

You won't die unless your immune system is very poor. Dog bites are blunt punctures and open and tend to bleed, removing infectious agents as long as you don't smother the wounds.

If you're torn open, you'll bleed to death, but you asked about a single bite.

If you mistreat the wound or get it dirty, you can contract sepsis and die, but that is somewhat difficult to do.

For a normal dog bite, you should be fine as long as you aren't foolish about it. Let it bleed a little to get the debris and bacteria out, then wash it with clean water and bandage it with a non-stick material. Clean the bandage if it gets too bloody, and wait until the wound scabs.

If you are bleeding heavily, just go get stitches.

You got a dog?

[ Can she dogsit? Oh wait, she should probably focus on his worry. ] Wow, um. Are you bleeding? Or is it bruised?

Jimmy.

[An exhale, fond and amused and yeah, okay, concerned too.]

Want me to take a look?

That's pretty unfortunate. It would be really unlucky if that dog had rabies, huh?

Has it started turning funny colors yet? [Teasing] Oh. No, wait that's a cat bite.

I'll come over and take a look at it. Did you clean it off? How badly was it bleeding?

Well, if he's going to try to kill you, I'd go do it.

But hey, if he just got mad and nipped you, yeah, I wouldn't do that.
thermonuclear_birdbrain: (uh...well...)

[personal profile] thermonuclear_birdbrain 2013-06-04 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What'd you do to him?

I'll be over in shortly. I just need to grab my things.

What did you do to earn a bite, anyway?
thermonuclear_birdbrain: (well how about that)

[personal profile] thermonuclear_birdbrain 2013-06-04 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He thinks you're weaker than he is and that you basically won't bite back. Animals don't fight anyone when they think they'll get in trouble for it.

From what I know about animals, they generally don't attack unless provoked. You might have done something that you didn't realize would provoke.
thermonuclear_birdbrain: (hell raven)

Scare him. Look big and impressive, and like you could beat him up. And if he attacks you, be loud and fight back a little. Not enough to really hurt him, but enough to show him you're on top.

...At least, that's how ravens do things. I'm guessing dogs are kind of similar? They group up and have the leaders and the followers, right?

It's not so bad, then. You've still got at luck on your side.

Why would you have a dog on your lap? Aren't they too big for that?

[Laruna's world hasn't developed small dogs yet.]
