[ This has happened before, the singing. The infernal singing picking and plucking at her will. It has no effect on Marie any longer, not because of a spectacular strength of mind, although she certainly has that. It saved her from the annelids who had sung to her on her ship, who had desecrated the Von Braun and all of its crew with the sweet promise of unity. Of power as one.

Perhaps it is experience that saves Marie's mind. Perhaps it is the paranoia born of it: she cannot be lulled into trust, into belief.

And she is determined to save the others from whatever ill-fate the sirens seek for them. She's very heavily armed as she makes her way into the streets, but there is a certain intimacy she has begun to favor in a pistol. ]

[For a lot of this curse, Korra has been singing songs she's learned while in the City, but today she feels a little homesick. She's perched on the edge of the fountain, singing a song she heard in Republic City as she looks into the water, wondering if it's true that you can catch glimpses of home in it.

She doesn't notice her song drawing people in, nor does she notice Marie.]

[It is easy to follow the patterns of movement, crowds swirling in and out like currents, some drawn to one singer, others lured in by the sentiments and tones of another. Some want self destruction, some want lust, others find this peppy little tune to entice. It doesn't matter to Marie, it is all the same to her and she moves purposefully past those standing in adulation around the girl.]

[The singer's age has no effect on Marie either. A monster is a monster and this captivation is monstrous, depriving others around her of their will and of their selves. Disgusting. She does nothing to harm the onlookers, but for the girl... She levels the gun and fires.]

[Korra doesn't notice Marie's approach. She's pretty much oblivious until suddenly she's bowled over by blinding pain in her back shoulder. By instinct she kicks out and sends a blast of air at whoever attacked her. Even with her vision swimming, she won't go down without a fight.]

[Marie scrabbles to the side. She has seen such powers before, telepathic in nature. It doesn't matter where the power comes from, the result is the same. The girl is too dangerous for her own good.]

[She backs up, putting further range between herself and the girl, firing off a cover of bullets. Some of the entranced have snapped awake again and go scurrying away from the sound of gunfire. Others continue to sway, making faint noises of discontent that their song has been interrupted.]

[The fire from her pistol is merely distractionary, however. The M22 Assault Rifle drawn from her back is a more effective tool when dealing with a spook. It can be fired in fully automatic.]

[Korra ignores the pain and creates a funnel, redirecting the bullets towards the ground. It's harder than she thought it'd be -- the bullets move too quickly. A few of them almost hit the feet of bystanders.]

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!? [The question's directed at Marie, but it also applies to the idiots who haven't moved yet.]

Release your 'old on zhem.

[Kind of hard to hear over the automatic weapon. Shouting might do the trick though, and Marie doesn't sound.... angry. Perhaps that makes this situation all the more confusing. She doesn't hate the girl she's shooting at.]
