[Korra and Naga are sitting in the backyard of their apartment building. Korra looks unusually thoughtful.

She's trying to figure out what to do with the five pink sheep that are currently grazing around her. Naga lets out a warning growl as one of the sheep tries to eat her ear. Fortunately, Korra has already told the polar bear dog quite firmly that the sheep are not food.

But seriously. What was Tyr thinking, leaving his entire farm to her? Does Korra look like a farm girl?

A tall, greasy man storms her way. Oh shit, it's the landlord! Korra jumps up and smiles awkwardly.]

Hey there, Mr….Landlord….person…

All right, that's it! I've had enough of you! Letting you keep the beast around was one thing.

[Korra had flinched as he immediately started yelling, but she straights indignantly at this insult to her friend.] Hey, Naga is not --

[He's not listening.]

Being almost a MONTH late with the rent was another thing. And now SHEEP? In MY YARD?

[There's loud meowing from Korra's apartment. Both Korra and the landlord turn to find all nine of Tyr's cats piled in the window, looking as adorable as they possibly can.

Her landlord is not impressed.]

AND NINE CATS?!?! THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR!

Dulcie has a radar for cute, fluffy things like no other. Alas she arrives when the argument is still in full-flow. She hangs back at first, making silly faces as she waits for the yelling to be over.]

[Korra is distracted mid-shout by the faces Dulcie is making, and she chokes on a laugh.]

Do you think this is funny?!

[Dulcie nods vigorously from behind him. It is, in fact, VERY funny.]

[ Despite the humid, congested air of the club -- cigarette smoke and perfume and copper -- Karl keeps track of every customer's coming and goings. Blood is like fingerprints, and each individual carries it with their own brand of scent. Handy, really, for catching troublemakers who've been kicked out before. Or for tracking underagers, most of whom smell of candies, cigarettes and foolhardy adrenaline. ]

[ But this isn't a playground, little lambs. It's a wolves' den. ]

Hello, hello~ [ He appears behind Korra as if he's coalesced out of the walls. ] May I see some ID, my dear?

[Korra jumps. Where had he come from?!? She'd been paying close attention to her surroundings; there's no way she could have missed him.]

I-ID? I don't have any ID.

[ Preternatural senses, Korra. ]

[ Karl raises a single eyebrow at the No ID remark. Most wouldn't be stupid enough to admit it up-front. They'd stall for time. But this girl clearly hasn't snuck into too many bars. ]

Then how did you get in here? Offer to blow the bouncer? [ He breaks off, recognizing her. There's a sudden sly smile. ] Oh~ It's you, Little Miss Prissy.

[He hears the screaming - really, who doesn't? - and smells Naga as he turns the corner.

He brightens a little at the sight of Naga, and then looks at the landlord stomping off.]

[It's lucky Derek arrives when he does. Naga had not been happy with the landlord's attitude towards Korra, and the Avatar had been having trouble holding her back. But when the polar bear dog catches Derek's scent, the threatening snarls become welcoming barks, and she wags her tail happily.]

[Derek doesn't smile, not in public, and he reaches for Naga.]

[ He was just... kind of minding his own business when he heard the landlord screech. Honestly. What were a few...

[ he blinked as he turned the corner and then blinked again. ]

[ his head tilted and then he coughed, looking down at the ground as he swiftly started cleaning his glasses. ]

I beg your pardon, but I couldn't help but notice you seem to have pink sheep--

[ wait, wait. That's not. Ack! It's that dog again. Quick Liam. RUN.




Except no, sadly. He's absolutely petrified. What else is he to do in the face of that much beast? Nothing. That's what. It's just hurry up and wait to die. Farewell, good world. He thought he knew you well... ]

[Oh Liam, it's not Naga you should be afraid of. It's Korra's very cranky landlord.]

PINK SHEEP! In MY YARD! [He whirls back to Korra.] This is a blatant violation of your lease!

[Korra is none too happy either.]

I don't know anything about your stupid lease!

[And when Korra's not happy, Naga's not happy. The polar bear dog bares all her teeth at the landlord, doing her best to look as frightening as possible.

[After seeing the post, Chekov books it to Korra's in the hope of pacifying her landlord (and to see the pink sheep). He draws to a halt well out of range of the mistletoe.]

[By this point, Korra is back inside the apartment, changing into clothes to go job hunting. (Read: Changing into another pair of jeans and a t-shirt that's not covered in snow and dog fur. She doesn't know you're supposed to dress up to go job hunting.)

Naga looks up and wags her tail in a friendly greeting. The sheep mostly ignore Chekov; they're too busy trying to find grass underneath the snow.]

[He regrets missing the landlord. Perhaps a green or a blue would have enabled everyone to walk away from the confrontation happy.

There's no hurry, though, and Chekov would like to ask Korra about her new acquisitions. He goes over to Naga to keep her company in the meantime... and kisses the polar bear dog.]

[Even flying around to avoid mistletoe, he can't ignore the yelling he hears. Setsuna stops in curiosity, but before long isn't even hearing a word the landlord says. Naga! This is where she and Korra live.]

[And look at the cats! And the sheep! There's a reason he works at the zoo...]

That's a lot of animals! [He lands - only two wings on display, folded behind his back (here's another animal?) - by the landlord, but ignores him completely.]

Can I see them? [Big grin.]

Who the hell are you?!

[The landlord doesn't like being ignored, Setsuna. Korra is mostly surprised by his apparent obliviousness to the tension in the air.]


Uhh....sure?

[Naga trots over and immediately demands affection.]

Setsuna. I'm a friend. [CHEEKY ASS GRIN. Have some more of being ignored.]

Hey, Naga! How you doin' girl? [He grins to Korra and gives Naga some petting.] I really hope there isn't any trouble going on? I am on the police force, after all. And I'll have to get involved if things escalate.

I'd rather not, since I'm off duty.

[Of course Tohru approaches right as the landlord is yelling. She was about to ask if there was a problem, but then she sees the cats in the window. And the sheep!]

Kitties! There's so many of them! And sheep! What a pretty color!

[A turn towards Naga with her bright, cheery face.] And who's this?

[She then turns to the landlord.] If we pay extra in rent, can we keep them, please? I'll make sure to work really hard and earn the money!

[Ah, that's right, Korra never did get around to properly introducing Naga to Tohru.

Or to the landlord. He looks at Tohru and then scowls at Korra.]

Who's this?

Ah, she's my new roommate. Tohru.

I never authorized a new tenant!

[He turns to glower at Tohru.] Do you have a job?

I'm very sorry, sir. If I had known I would have let you know I was moving in. Do you need a deposit, or extra for me? [She's blushy and frantic, wanting badly to make up for the issues, and help out anyway she could. Even without meaning to she's causing Korra more trouble.]

And yes! I have a job. I might even have two! And I can work lots of extra hours, if it helps.

[Jinora has been so happy since the animals showed up. She likes animals; they're quieter than people.

Like the man who's yelling at Korra outside. She's staying in the apartment, sharing the window with a handful of cats and just waiting for Korra to get mad and punch the guy's face. ...Not that Jinora advocates violence, of course, but he does seem really mean.]

[Korra is trying really hard to keep her calm, for Jinora's sake if nothing else. She doesn't want to upset the young girl.

But it's really hard, especially when the landlord starts cursing.]

Hey! Watch it! There's a kid here!

[Sorry, Jinora.]

[Jinora can hear them through the window and she has never heard some of the words coming out of the landlord's mouth. She gets the jist of what he's saying and thinks Tenzin would completely freak out if he heard anything like that.

But she's not stupid. When Korra points her out, she puts on the most horrified, wide-eyed face she can manage. Oh, her debauched innocence!

(It's a good thing she's not outside and too shy to bust out the dramatics in front of the land lord. She thinks she could probably reduce him to a puddle of tears.)]
