[It's an undisputed fact of the City that not every curse is a tragedy. Sometimes they are. Sometimes they're just irritating. Sometimes they can even be fun. It's all a matter of perspective, really.

If you happen to be strolling through the park this afternoon, you'll find a group of citizens gathered around an old school boombox and a badass set of speakers. They've decided being annoyed by spontaneous dancing is too much effort, so instead, they're using it as an excuse to skip out on work and share the music they love with their fellow citizens.

Hey, man, any excuse to have fun! You're all invited! Bring your records, your cds, your mp3 players, your guitars, your voices. If you have music to share, there's a group of people here ready to dance. And if you're just in the mood to dance yourself, well, you're in good company.]

[Korra had gone to the park to train, but the sounds of music drew her to the crowd. Before she knew it, she was dancing along with the crowd.]

[Cursed? Not cursed? Who cares? The music may be weird and she may not really know how to dance, but that's not stopping her from having a good time.]

[Chekov is similarly uncursed but willing to play along. Unfortunately for the world as a whole, the boy has never danced in his life and is doing far more rhythmic flailing than actual dancing.

He does stop momentarily to listen to Uhura.]

You sing very well.

[The end of her song is ruined a little by her attempt to choke back a laugh as she watches Chekov flail. She's seen the boy move before; he has a natural grace to him. But somehow that grace gets lost when music plays.]

Thank you. Is that a traditional Russian dance?

[She teases 'cause she cares.]

[Whoops. Sorry, Uhura.]

This? No. This is what an Academy friend called "if you put on music, Chekov will pretend he can dance to it." [He flops next to her for just a moment.]

My family, we're singers more than dancers, although I have a cousin who dances ballet with the Bolshoi Company. Before you ask, no, I cannot sing. I'm a great shame to the family. [He's probably joking about the last part--or all of it, it's hard to tell.]

Does your family sing?

Of course. You'd be kicked out of my entire community if you couldn't sing and dance. [It's a joke...mostly. Song & dance are taken pretty seriously where she's from.]

But the Bolshoi Company. That's impressive. How long has she danced with them?

[candothat]

I can never visit your community; they would ban me in minutes. [He actually is a decent singer, but not at all like Uhura is. His family encouraged him to do what came naturally--that is, being intelligent.]

Yes, the Chekovs are very proud of her. Mashenka has been dancing with them for nearly four years and is the envy of all of my little cousins.

You'd be fine. You're a white boy.

What do you mean by that?

[universaltranslator]

Nobody expects you to be able to dance. It's just a stereotype.

[candothat]

Many forms of dancing were invented in Russia. I see no reason for that stereotype to exist.

[universaltranslator]

[sigh] Stereotypes don't need to make sense, Chekov. [She doesn't feel up to going into the whole cultural-relic-of-western-imperialism thing. Not when there's good music playing.]

Why don't you show me some of those Russian moves?

Uhura, are you mocking me?

Not until you do something to deserve it.

You won't be waiting long.

[She puts her chin on her hand and gives him A Look.]

[Is that how we're playing, ma'am? Chekov gives her a cheeky wink and then proceeds to dance in that special all-limbs way of his. He's not completely hopeless. Maybe he'll be a passable dancer when he grows into his legs and arms.

Also, Uhura, now is a perfect opportunity to mock.]

[Uhura covers her mouth to stifle a laugh. He's adorable.]

[Why stifle the laugh? It's what he's after! Chekov stops and looks at her expectantly.]

Now you may mock me.

[She laughs openly]

You've got great spirit. But terrible rhythm.
