Hey.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know exactly what the ticking thing is? The point of it all? I realize it's a clock and seems to be linked the merry go round in the center there, but does anyoe know anything else about it?

[Somehow Theo manages to say that with a straight face. It helps that his sunglasses are hiding his eyes.]

Well, since I wear a tie every day, it was a good choice. I really think the colors suit me.

[Look, he's speaking with a straight face, too.]

It is a clock, as you said. In fact, it is the Clock.

And the story I was told when I first arrived six years ago is that it counts down what little time is left until the destruction of every world in existence--yours, mine, and everyone else's. But, ostensibly, our suffering through the curses is what keeps the thing wound and ticking and perhaps even buys us a little time before the Apocalypse.

Does that answer your question?

Soo... wouldn't the fact that the clock stopped for that short period of time the other day mean that everything was already destroyed?

Wouldn't it, though? And yet, so far as I can tell, it doesn't mean that at all.

To be quite honest, it has stopped before for brief periods of time. I've never been quite sure as to what that might mean or signify.

Probably someone is screwing around with those rules you mentioned.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least. After the ordeal we've just endured, that would be the very first thing I'd think of.

I wonder how much of it is is even actually rules or just excuses to let them mess around with us.

More information about it. It's always been there but I've never known exactly what it is.

So you just got curious? Doesn't sound like most people know much more about it than what you picked up already -- from what I've been hearing, anyway.

I've been curious but the recent stoppage just sort of brought it up to the forefront of my thoughts.

Strange though, isn't it? I mean you would think people would have found out more about it over the years.

Guess they could've provided more information on what bounces off of it hardest, though.

[He briefly wonders if Mayhem could eat through it. Mayhem being a kitten that has been discovered to be able to eat anything including magical things like barriers. Then he decides that would probably be bad.]

Seems like Cain's said it all, he's been here longer than most of us, he'll know best. But I'll add that the thing gets defensive if you poke around too closely. A few of us from my world tried that a couple years ago, worked our way through the Underground to get to it. We ended up getting thrown on top of the carousel and then thrown around the City, somehow.
