[ Professor McGonagall looks in rare form today! She sits at a desk at the head of a classroom, chalkboard behind her already scribbled with notes and symbols. She speaks with a thick Scottish accent: perhaps the only indicator of her extreme excitement over what she's about to announce. ]

Good evening, everyone. I am Professor McGonagall. I'm hoping to inquire whether there are any other residents of the City that refer to themselves as teachers? This university seems rather empty, for such a large building.

Now as for the rest of you, I would like to make an announcement. For any of my former students, I will be resuming my class schedule here at the university. I have arranged for two classrooms and an office for myself. All of you are welcome to come, of course; the schedule and room numbers are attached along with my office room number and hours.

For those of you that aren't from a world with Hogwarts in it, if you are able to make sense of the notes on the chalkboard here, you may sit in on my classes. If you are able to do this: [ the video turns around as if from her own point of view as she demonstrates a wordless fera verto sans ron and harry gawking ] you may sit in and potentially participate, depending on your level of command over the transfiguration. Without a wand of your own, you will not be able to master this magic, but I am required to leave my classroom open to individuals interested, provided you respect my rules and do not interrupt class.

In addition, I believe that there are a few other courses available to the City, thought I am unable to find a registry for them. Perhaps we may rectify such an oversight. Any of you teaching courses, if you'd like to give me the information for them, I'd be happy to compile a list available to the public.

I should be on the campus for another few hours, if any of you would like to come see me personally. Otherwise, leaving a message to this broadcast is sufficient, thank you.

[ And off goes the video, after a curt little nod from Minerva. How formal. ]

[ ooc: as minerva has stated, she'll be starting classes! we'll say biweekly, just transfiguration for now, but if any of you'd like something else added on, i'm happy to do so. all i ask is that you let me know that your character is regularly attending so that i can have her react appropriately. if any of you would ever like to log a snippet of class or other types of teaching, like one on one help, let me know and we'll set something up! additionally, any extra teachers or non-teachers that want to start up classes? we could put together a little curriculum or what have you? give a shout! ]

I'm still very interested in teaching Ability Control and Ethical/Moral use of said abilities.

Wonderful. The main office has a rather long list of forms to be filled out, but I found the secretary extremely helpful if you'd like to set up a class.

What's transfiguration? I can use magic, but I've never heard of that before.

Ah. As you can see from my demonstration, it is, in lamen's terms, the changing of one object to another. More specifically, one magically manipulates the molecular structure of that object. There are many branches of the subject, some much more difficult and dangerous than others.

So not just turning stuff into cups. Okay. [He'd been wondering how that could be very useful.] You must never have to go shopping.

Correct. However, there is nothing quite like a fresh, true-grown apple. I shop just as much as everyone else, I can assure you.

What happens to that bird? Will it be okay if you turn it back?

[ The video turns back around to the goblet, and in moments it becomes a bird again. It gives a squawk, and flaps its wings, as if stretching. ]

Only a little stiff, which a good fly around the room should cure.

Yeah, cool. Turning an animal into an object doesn't sound that hard. Or...it does, but turning it back and having it still be okay must be a lot harder!

If you require any assistance, Professor McGonagall, I am more than happy to provide it.

Just the wizard I was hoping to hear from. You could set up your own class, if you're interested. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind having you on to use my curricula.

I don't know that I would have the time for a class of my own at the moment, but I would certainly be glad to help with yours.

Completely understandable. I'd love to have you on, then. Tutoring? Grading? Anything you'd be particularly interested in doing?

I would be happy to help with tutoring and grading. I'm sure you recall that I have a penchant for paperwork.

Of course, though I don't know how much I can promise you. My class might simply consist of your sister and some onlookers, at this rate.

I find that surprising. There seem to be a fair amount of magically inclined people in the city; I would think that Transfiguration would have more appeal to them.

Hi! I'm Dawn Summers and I'd be interested in sitting in on one of your classes. I've dabbled before. I mean I'm not like a mega-witch or anything but I can do some small spells and have read a lot of magic books and stuff. Learning more would be a good thing.

It'd be a pleasure to have you, Miss Summers. Can you elaborate on what sorts of spells you've accomplished successfully?

Well I did this one that felt like it worked though I kind of chickened out. It was one to bring someone back to life. And another one I did was a summoning spell, to summon spirits and things. That one worked kind of. My sister's friend Willow thinks I might have an affinity to magic because... reasons. But I've never really explored it much before. Just... random experimentation.

[ Oh dear Minerva probably spilled her tea all over her lap, Dawn. Way to give the old bird a legit heart attack. ]

Your definition of dabbling is attempting to resurrect someone? Magic is not a toy, young lady -- and it most certainly has very strict rules and techniques that require--

[ Okay, must stop lecturing before it turns into a tirade. ]

Perhaps you would be more suited to Miss McGee's usage and control course, first...

Okay so you sound like my sister only with an accent that makes you sound all mother superior or something. And maybe someone should tell you that that accent with that mother superior tone of voice makes me feel like I'm in trouble or something and I haven't even done anything!

[Dawn just gives her an omg whaaat look with an arched brow.] Now you just need a pair of glasses to look over the rim of in order to complete the Giles-esque look of disapproving doom. Seriously, you've got it down like there should be an award for getting it down and you could win it. I really haven't done anything wrong today! Cross my heart and hope not to die!

Is Writing a Good a-ability to be able to go to School?

I wonder, since magic is really just another word for science in the long and thin of it, if understanding the theory of one broadens the concepts of the other.

What have you got left that needs teaching?

Well, I suppose that would be up to you to decide. If you'd like to attend a class, I'll have texts available for potential students to peruse.

Have you ever studied magic before, or are you solely based in science?

Oh, I'd definitely like to attend. That'd be brilliant!

Not 'studied', per se, but I've run into a few witches who showed off a thing or so. Predominately science though, yeah.

Transfiguration is possibly the closest branches of magic to Muggle science, I'd say. It's also the most dangerous, and the most flexible. From petrification, to conjuration, to the fera verto you just saw.

It is hardly a skill to show off.

[Seriously he is all but clapping his hands together it sounds like the best thing.] Perfect! I'd be interested to see if there's a direct translation. Or just to watch. Watching is... Well watching's not really fun but it's better than nothing.

[And there's what little chastisement anyone but Rose can likely get out of him.] Well, yeah. They were kind of... Theatrical about it. But, of course, yeah; dangerous.

I'm afraid that If you're simply looking for a show, you're out of luck.

The notes resemble alchemy - are they?

Oh, hardly-- however, there are similarities. Being that we're changing molecular structures at such a base level. You're an alchemist?
