If you'd let me guess...

You picked up the first one because it looked like sugar and you have relatively lax limits on what you'll put in your mouth. The second one was a test in matching the words and the effect. Second or third hit you like a blow, and that's when you stopped being indiscriminate.

If you weren't being selective, you'd be eating them by the pound. And if the ones that hurt weren't the ones you were looking for, you'd have stopped eating long before getting to a handful.
