[From the sound of it, the angel has no idea he's being recorded.]

You know, it's not that I mind this City, exactly; it's less pleasant some days than others, to be sure, but all in all I can accept I'm meant to be here, whether or not I know why. Ineffability and all that. One gets used to it, after a time, and certainly I've had plenty of that.

Still, it is... well, between you and I, if I'm honest, it's a bit lonesome at the moment. My fault, really, for being a bit of a creature of habit. But I'm hardly accustomed to, er, these sort of comings and goings.

[There's a soft huff of breath which he will insist is not a sigh, and a faint rustling in the background.]

But, one never knows. I'd best keep you in some semblance of presentable shape, or I'll never hear the end of it if Crowley does come back.

Oh, we were-- you'd not believe, absolute centuries of nothing save the usual, and the City invariably picks the, er, well, the absolute worst moment, to put it mildly. But even that can wait, really. Quite literally-- nothing happens when one's here.

[Centuries? Did he really say centuries? He probably didn't, and she would just sound weird if she asked about it.]

I've heard about that. But aren't you anxious to return to something like that?

Well, if I'm honest, not really. I don't imagine taking the time here to think on it would have helped us to any brilliant solution, but it's rather nice to, er. Delay the inevitable. Or the ineffably evitably inevitable, as remains to be seen.

I...I think I might know what you mean. Maybe. I mean, I could never know really just how you feel because I'm not you, or in your situation. But there are some things I'm not ready to do yet, myself.

No one ever is, I expect. Perhaps that's part of the point, though of course it's all speculation on my part. But if it were a certain thing that we'd triumph, there'd hardly be any point to testing us.

Ah, yes. And even if it's hard sometimes, without the challenges, it might not be worth it. Or maybe not as fulfilling.

That's long been my suspicion.

Would you like one of Crowley's lilies? He'll be dreadfully annoyed if he does return, of course, but only with me, I expect. And likely as not I've already spoiled them.

Oh, no! I wouldn't want to cause any trouble for you. And, from the sound of it, I wouldn't know best how to care for it. I would feel awful if anything happened to it because I'm neglecting it. [As odd as that is to say when speaking of not verbally abusing it.]

But thank you for the offer. That's very kind of you.

He's bound to be cross one way or the other, as I've been coddling them. [There's a laugh in his voice, though.]

It's not so generous an offer as it sounds; there are quite a lot of them, and I hate to think of what will become of them if I should leave.

I suppose I could take one if that is your concern. I just don't want to cause any trouble.

And [she pauses, this is also an odd thing to say] well, I do hope your friend returns and you don't leave. Or if you want to leave, then I hope you do, though it would make me a little sad to worry what might happen about the plants without the both of you.

You'd not be causing any trouble at all, I assure you.

It's not that I'm so eager to go, really; but I suspect it shan't be long either way. Whether he returns or I leave.

It would be nice to get to know you a little better, first. Not that I would want you to stay here just for that! Not if you want to go home.

But, um, if it's okay, then, I will take the lily.

Er, well, this all sounds rather melancholy, doesn't it? Really, I'm quite content either way; I expect whatever happens will be what must happen; I'm disinclined to grouse about it. But, for the moment, here I am, and utterly incapable of, er, not going on, so what would you like to know, my dear?

Oh! What kind of hobbies do you enjoy? You seem a very nice person, concerned about the plants of your friend.

Oh, I dabble in any number of things. Er. Books, mainly; I am fond of books, perhaps overly so. I dance, though I've done more of that here than ever at home-- gavotting being rather out of style-- and though I'm not terribly comfortable with the implication of being associated with, ah, the dark arts, I'm no stranger to a bit of sleight of hand.

And yourself?

Any type of book? Ah! Is that where I recognize your voice from? I think we might have danced when I first arrived here.

Oh! Like magic? [Instead of acknowledging he means tricks like magic.]

I, uh, I'm good at cleaning. I like to cook, too. And talking with my friends. Sometimes we play card games.

Yes, I believe we did. [He sounds faintly pleased to be remembered for his dance floor skills.]

Magic tricks, yes. Illusions, producing flowers and doves and the like. I've been practicing for-- oh, ages, really, but outside the City it's not a skill that sees much use.

Please do promise me you'll not play cards with Crowley, if he should come back.

Why can't you get any use out of your tricks outside of the City? I would love to see a magic show!

Uh, okay. I promise I won't play cards with Mister Crowley, but may I ask why?

Oh, it isn't that I can't do my magic show at home, it's just, er. There's never much demand for that in my line of work, that's all.

One might say that I trust Crowley to cheat no matter what.

That's a shame. But you could still perform here, right? Then maybe I could see your act!

But that's okay. It could still be fun!

Ah, well! I do perform in the Circus, here. Er, during the day show, if you'd like to come watch.

[Aziraphale's magic show is unquestionably terrible, of course.]

I can't imagine it would be-- er, there's a challenge and then there's simple injustice, you know.

I will definitely go watch your show, then!

Injustice? Is he that good? Maybe I should just watch.

Well, it's less a matter of skill-- though I've no doubt he's quite good-- and more one of, er, nature.

I'm not very good, either way. So maybe someone better could play him and I'll watch. I think it might be exciting, when you put it that way!
