[It's only after he arrives there, however, that he rather suddenly remembers his lack of a proper voice. How is he going to explain this? How is he going to explain anything at all that he's been through? And what the hell is Turlough going to think of him like this, anyway?]

[Turlough looks a little older. Or maybe it's just how he's carrying himself, not slouching or scowling as much as he used to. And he's no longer in the school uniform any more.

One thing which remains painfully familiar is the fact that he doesn't bother with any beating around the bush.]

[And pulls him in directly for a searing kiss.]

[Jack doesn't even have time to gauge the differences from when he saw him last before he's being pulled in for that kiss.

Painfully familiar, indeed.

It's enough to make him forget his own troubles for him moment, forget his voicelessness and the fact that he couldn't begin to tell him how much he's missed him even if he could speak right now. Hopefully the near-crushing hug he gives him in return will suffice for that.]

[Just like old times.

He automatically starts to say sorry, but all that comes out is the low, rumbling beginnings of a Big Daddy bellow before he freezes and the sound dies in his throat. He lets go and steps back, not too far, but far enough that it's clear he doesn't quite know what to do with himself.]

[Yes he's saying his name a lot. But what the hell? He steps back into his personal space, his face openly curious.]

[Turlough deserves an explanation, even if he can't manage a spoken one. He hesitates for a moment, then lifts his chin and tugs down the collar of his shirt to show him the scars at his throat. Hopefully that will be explanation enough.]

[Allow him to swear loudly and enthusiastically. They may be gathering some attention now, but fuck it. He'd ask what happened but he's beginning to understand that he won't get an answer.]

Do you still have your flat?

[He nods to that. He'd been gone from the City for some time, but after he returned and secured a job again, he'd managed to get his old place back without much trouble. He wonders, though, if Turlough still knows where it is.]

[It takes a moment but he finds his feet carry him there on muscle memory.]

[He follows close behind, unable to keep himself from smiling a little despite everything else. Just like old times, indeed.

Part of him hopes Turlough will be back for good, but at the same time, he's not so sure he wants to let himself hope that much.]
