[ Panic sits heavy in Raven's throat, drips into her heart like the water currently falling from her uniform. She'd had to pull herself from the water immediately, the shock of cold and lack of breath breaking only when the survival instinct had kicked it. But it's not seawater, she knows that much, knows as she sits on the steps of an unfamiliar building and watches the flooded streets with an unfamiliar horror that she is no longer on the beach. Had the teleporter brought her here? And what of her brother, of her friends?

Raven doesn't like feeling lost.

But she found the device easily, sitting awkward against the leather of her uniform. It had taken moments for her to figure out the buttons and now she stares at it. The device barely catches a flicker of blue before it settles on to the image of a blonde girl, a worried crease settling between her eyebrows. She's wearing some sort of uniform, yellow and black leather that hugs her tight and looks like it's made for protection more than anything. But it's maybe a little strange to see a girl who looks so young in something like that. ]

Is this a camera? [ Turning the device in her hands. ] I don't --.

[ She doesn't know what it is or how to use it and all she can think of is the last thing she said to Charles before they came to the beach, before they had to fight. It makes her want to cry but she knows she can't. With an exhale of breath and a disappointed sound, she talks almost to herself. ] Always falling to peices, c'mon.

[Yep. It's a day ending with 'y' if there are new arrivals. But Charlie's been here long enough to actually feel concerned when they look young.]

Actually, it's a piece of shit communication device. It's yours, I promise.

[Charlie. What the hell kind of greeting was that?]

[ The screen dips in surprise, Raven holding up the device as though it might actually be possessed. They have televisions and telephones and sonar and all manner of communication devices back home but this --?

Well. ]

Like a radio? [ The girl on the other side should probably not make Raven relax any because Emma and Angel are just as deadly as Shaw or his cronies, but she's lost and although not as hopeful as her brother there are some traits they share. ]

I ... can you see me?

I can. Hi. I'm Charlie. [She gives the girl a wave and a grin.] Welcome to the City. And...sort of like a radio? Everyone here has one, so it's going off frequently with videos, text posts. It can be exciting and kind of frustrating.

[ For a moment she just lets that sink in. A communcation device that lets you see the other person. Charles would love it ...

Charles. ]

I have to go back, could you just tell me if there's - [ An airport? But she couldn't just fly to the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis, she's not an idiot.

With ever rising horror. ] I have no idea how to get back to my brother.

Hey. [Small wave of compassion; Mae's starting to take this whole Greet Lost Teens thing seriously.] It's a communication device thingy, but it does have a camera, yes.

That's kind of the unfortunate thing about this place. There's no way to leave. Sorry to tell you this. [Charlie tries peering around Raven, nose wrinkling a bit.]

By any chance, do you see a lot of construction going on near you?

[ She's going to stop having to be surprised when a voice comes out of it, but when is the question. This time though, she just holds it closer, hunched in on herself as though that can help. ]

It's super small. [ That's the most troubling thing. Technology is so big, like Cerebro and Hank's computers, his lab. ] Someone else said it was mine? But I don't even know what it really is.

Less is more, and all. [She nods.] Every person who is brought here is entrusted with one of them. See, I'm using mine now. It's just something we can use to communicate with one another - instead of doing what everyone else does in a city and ignoring around ninety-eight percent of the population.

[ No way to ...

She focuses on the second part, stands and winces when her uniform sluices off more water. She's on the corner of a street and it takes a lot of effort to not fall back in, turn the corner. True enough she can see metal construction railings ( thinks of Erik with a pain in her throat ) and nods. ] Yeah, yeah I can.

That's my tea-shop. It's...inoperable at the moment, but I'm there if you want to talk face to face.

I can probably manage to make you a cup of tea since it's cold out.

Partially. Welcome to the future. [Amused grin. It's a safe bet if the device is new to her.]

[ She almost smiles, the tiniest uptick of her mouth before it halts. She knows New York and London so well that she understands the sentiment. ]

I can't stay here. [ There's a waver to her voice, a swallowed down thread of fear. ] I have to get back to my brother.

Sean?

[ She brings the device closer to her face to look at him. She's not a telepath but her power is in noticing things about a person, how else could she shift if she didn't notice things. ]

No, you're not ... are you his twin?

[Did she say BROTHER - wah, the feelings that sweep over her every time there's siblings being separated involved. If she thinks of the jar full of confetti on her night table, she doesn't show it.]

I'm sorry - I'm afraid nothing of what's to come is good news. But unfortunately, for a while, we're stuck here.

Tea.

[ She's lived around Charles her entire life, a man who thinks tea is the answer to everything. She nods because it will get her somewhere warm, stop the shake in his stomach. She needs information and she knows sometimes it's better to ask people on the ground more than anyone else.

She was a waitress, it made sense to know things. ] Okay, sure. That's okay, right?

That's absolutely alright. You look like you need to get out of the cold, anyway.

[Charlie grins at Raven, nodding a bit.] See you soon.

[She switches her device off and will be standing outside, supervising construction and really wishing one of the construction workers had a belt.]

He's going to end up - [ Killed. Raven swallows and fights back the tears because what else can she do? This isn't like anything she's ever had to deal with before.

( Because Charles found her and has kept her ever since and despite all of her anger and pain, to be seperated like this makes her feel as lost and frightened as the child in his kitchen. ) ] In trouble.

[ But Erik will look out for him, won't he? He has to, she has to entrust that he will because the thought that he might not make it out doesn't bear thinking about. ]

[ She could make herself look dry, she could make herself look like a lot of things, but there's no urge to. Not when she's struggling to understand what's going on right now, when she has no idea what's going on.

So she rushes to the tea shop, avoids looking at the builders because she's lived her life in London where they never ever wear pants that fit, finds Charlie easily and approaches with only a low level of caution. ] Hi.

[Oh, this is just - is this what she looks like? She wonders if this is how she is seen by others as well; and wonders what words she could possibly use to calm her down.]

You know...as the older sister to a fairly energetic boy, I can tell you that - most of the time, we think they'll get in trouble, but they know how to fix it themselves.

[It's a pandemic, construction workers and ill-fitting pants. Charlie's standing off to the side a bit, focused on a piece of metal one of the builders is working with. It's glowing just a tiny bit, tiny bits of flame dancing around it before the fire simply vanishes at the guys nod.]

That was good? I hope you get your torch fixed, soon. [The guy grins, nods again and heads off as Charlie looks at Raven.]

Hi. Sorry about the mess. We had a bit of a problem a few days ago.

He's older than me. [ But he trusts people too much, he cares too much and that's the thing that's going to take him under. Raven has been the cynical support system for as long as she can remember, tucked blankets around him when he's fallen asleep over his books, dragged him home when he's more than drunk and maudlin.

It's a level of responsibility she can't shake off. He gave her a home, he took care of her. She's been trying to repay that ever since. ] Is their a way to get a message out of ... out of this place?

It's okay, Mish! Please don't cry... [Pinoko sounds worried, but she's forcing a small, comforting smile.] Relaksh!

[ All in a rush. ] Are you a mutant?

[ Because there's no other way to explain that situation, no other --. She's half terrified and half thrilled because what else can she be? ]

Welcome to the City.

You will likely spend more time here than you would like; this place is treacherous and prone to suddenly changing from peaceful to hostile with no prior notice, so I urge you to find shelter.

Still...[she shrugs; she sticks by it. Jamie might have worried her endlessly, but it didn't mean he hadn't learnt to take care of himself.]

Unfortunately no. But he could be here, if you're...ah, lucky.
