[ 003 ] 🌠 [ Video // Action ]

[ After being here in the City this long, Jace thinks he should probably put in the effort to check out of the window for anything unusual when everything else inside passes for normal, but he's clearly living on the edge. It's his turn to do a breakfast run, the shopping still in need of doing, to discover that, well, where the roads should be are mass amounts of water running up and down the streets instead.

He admits, it both surprises and confuses him at first, but not for long; he's used to eventful days.

When he appears on the screen, Jace is crouching down by the side of one of the walkways, peering over the edge to try and see the bottom, or, erring on the side of caution, anything that might be moving around between there and the surface laying in wait. ]

Not that there's any chance of it ever happening to me, but if someone was to say, I don't know, fall into these murky depths, does anyone know if there's anything waiting down there to pounce? [ Thoughtfully, and with a devious little look. ] You never know, someone could happen to have an accident.

[ Private || Clary. ]

Drag yourself out of bed, there's been a change of plan. And if Mae's up, bring her along.

You only want me out of bed so I can watch you wrestle a man-eating octopus. [ Still, Clary is sitting cross-legged on their bed and smiling at him through the network. ]

It's almost as if you know me and my willingness to show off. [ He's grinning, of course he's grinning. ] Wait, before you leave the apartment, tell me one thing: can you swim?

I can swim.

[ There's a pause. ] Lake Lyn doesn't count. [ She kind of half smiles, a little quirk of her mouth because it still hurts to think about how they nearly didn't make it.

How they almost didn't find out. ] I mean I don't really want to swim to the store though.

Oh, yeah, well, you did almost die, so naturally that doesn't count. [ The usual light sarcasm holds a tenseness to it, eyes not quite as amused as they might be with anything else, but there is a fondness in it.

And now he just sighs, over-dramatic. ] The sidewalk's safe, and I was thinking more along the lines of picking something up and eating out there on the river.

I don't think you can walk on water, Jace.

[ >Water seems to be a thing with them ... Finding Valentine on the boat, the Lake. She tries not to shiver at the thought and untucks her legs from underneath her, smiling at him. ]

But okay, I kind of want to see what it's like. I've always wanted to go to Venice.

Is that a dare? I was thinking about jumping across, but walking could work.

[ He probably should have thought that through, but he can at least try to make it fun, even bordering on romantic. ]

Venice awaits right outside your door. So, does this mean you're coming down to join me?

Please don't, having to save you from drowning doesn't sound like fun.

[ But she's getting ready quickly, the video shaking as she slides her feet into patterned wellingtons she found at a charity shop, hand going to her jacket. ]

If you promise not to endanger yourself then I'll come down. [ Flashing him a smile as she leaves her room. ]

I'd make it, you know I'd make it. [ But to save her from a heart attack, he'll behave himself.

He waits, as if he's got all the time in the world, and smiles at the boots; she's nothing if not prepared. ] Fine, fine, I'll take a day off.

From proving the laws of physics wrong? Awesome, that'll make me feel better. [ She leaves the apartment, taking the stairs two at a time, her hair bouncing a little. ]

If it makes you feel better you can jump over stuff when the City isn't drowning.

[ Laughing, Jace is visibly moving, even if everything looks the same with the water running behind him and not much else in view, but he's actually close by, heading back to meet her. ]

If you promise, you can't take it back after when I actually hold you to it.

[ She's outside by that point, looking down the street for Jace before setting off because either she'll find him or he'll find her. ]

Wow. The whole place is like a lake. [ Keeping her balance on the slippery sidewalk. ] And okay I do promise.

It's a lot of water.

[ The feed pulls away from him, the image wobbling around, and a moment later it's obvious why; he's stepping right up behind her, arms quickly wrapping around her and pulling her back to his chest (just in case she jumps and slips in, he's thought this through). ] Guess who?

Is it my attractive and very muscle-y boyfriend?

[ Voice teasing and light as she turns with ease, winds her hands around his neck, smile wide. ] Oh, it's just you Jace.

You forgot charming and handsome.

[ He loosens his grip, hands curling around her waist instead, and his heart does a little dance the same way it always does whenever she first looks at him, even if he's doing his best hurt look. ] Who do I need to be jealous of?

[ Rising up on her tiptoes to kiss him in greeting. ]

It's a secret. [ She runs her fingers through his hair and grins. ]

[ He returns the kiss enthusiastically, fitting in a few quick pecks before letting it go. ]

How did I know you'd go the hard way? I'll have to kill everyone who even seems too friendly now.

You're just looking for an excuse to terrorise the City, I know you. [ She'd be quite happy to just lean against him on the sidewalk but that's not really practical. ]

So, plan?

First Mae, and now you. Why did no one tell me I was being too transparent?

[ He grins at that, practically beaming, and spins her around, arms still around her as he points towards a gondola bobbing around a little further down. ] Grab some brunch from the café, take it aboard, and enjoy.

You'll get such a reputation.

[ But her eyes light up at the gondala, a hopeless flutter in her chest and her smile wide and bright and enthusiastically happy. ] Oh, oh that would be amazing, Jace.

I shudder at the thought. How common.

[ He tries to play down how thrilled he is at the prospect, and even more so at how easily agreeable she is about it, but he's still somehow grinning. ] You don't get this in New York.

I've always wanted to go to Venice.

[ Leaning into him, a bright and easy way about her. ] And at least this way we can avoid the flight.

[ It's automatic as he throws his arm around her, pulls her further into him as he leads them to the delicious scent of food. ]

And speaking a foreign language.

You mean you don't know how to charm everyone in a billion different languages?

[ She's careful where she steps - not quite naturally tapping into the shadowhunter grace as of yet. ] I'm shocked.

Romanian, Greek, French, Latin, but Italian never came up.

[ He sees the potential there, and he's itching to get training started properly. Maybe the water could even come in useful. ] Ah, but if I can charm people in more languages, that means there's more competition for you.

[ Narrowing her eyes playfully at him. ]

Is that so? But I've got Mae now, she could make your life hell.

Jace, you really need to work on not making the creepiest hypothetical question posts.

Is it starting to become a habit? Because I really don't want to be predictable.

First it was the sword, now it's the [Deeper voice] Suppose someone were to fall into these murky waters.

[ Eyebrow's lifting, he's doing his best not to laugh. ] Was that supposed to be an impression of me? Because I'm pretty sure I don't sound like that. [ But she does have a point. ] They're simple enough questions, and if you don't ask, you don't get.

At least you know that you should ask in order to get.

[See, if she winks at him, it's only platonic really and it's because. She's amused.] Wasn't it? I could ask Clary.

A demon hunter who doesn't know when to stop and ask for weapons isn't going to last long. [ But on a more personal level, he's probably not the first to ask.

He sees the amusement, and if he winks back, well, it's harmless. ] The two of you need to stop ganging up on me, it's not fair when I'm outnumbered.

But you just...invite it. We haven't even asked you to let us braid your hair and other shenanigans.

I can tell you now that the only way that's happening is if you manage to knock me unconscious first, but it'll be fun to watch you try.

[ He's wearing the cockiest grin; he'll roll over if they push in the right places. ]

[He's a big cat, is what he is. But he plays along with the flirting, and Clary...hopefully doesn't mind it. Mae does draw the line in places, many places.]

Have you not been warned against challenging me?

[ He remembers how he hated watching Clary and her best friend, mistaking their natural rapport for flirting, and how it ate him up. But if it bugs Clary, she's never said, and there should probably be a subtle conversation to check. ]

I've been warned, but that only makes it more exciting.

[Subtle or direct. Place your bets, gentlemen; who'll bring that jewel up for talking about first, and how awkward will it be.]

It's not enough with the swords and the suspicious glances you keep throwing the water? Do you seek out thrills, Jace?

I get bored easily, what can I say? I've been training for so long I don't know what else to do now that I've actually got time on my hands.

Hmmm. [She can sympathize, to be fair; she was the one dragging her girl friends on adventures to raves in the darker parts of the town.] We need an adventure.

You're not going to hear an argument from me. No, wait, what's your definition of adventure?

You said yes first.

You weren't supposed to notice that. [ Still, an adventure, dangerous or not? That's probably what they all need. ] Do you have any ideas in mind or should I start plotting now?

You plan one, I'll plan one. Mind you, let's save the monster hunting for when the City curses require us to?

So you're shooting me down for exploring the shadiest parts of the City before I even get the chance to suggest it? Why am I not surprised.

Because you've known me long enough to know I plan ahead.

It's starting to be worrying how much you know me.
