005 Ducklings - [ accidental video ]

 [ George is sitting at his kitchen table, holding out a sandwich that three little hippos eat from. He doesn't look particularly shocked or delighted. Maybe his expression is a bit skeptical but that's all. ]

Go ahead and eat, if that keeps you from wildly vandalizing anything edible in sight. 

[ He observes them for another moment and tilts his head a bit. ]

But that doesn't mean I trust you to be harmless... And if you bring any more of your kind, we're going to have problems.

[ He sighs. ]

...why couldn't it have been ducks? I at least know how to deal with ducks.

Apparently. I did not ask for them to invade my home, but they did.

You can gladly come and pick them up. As long as they're being fed they'll be happy with it.

Completely wild ones maybe. But trained duck partners do not.

There was an influx of "geese" when I first arrived here. I believe they are of the same Type as "ducks." [The awkwardness of his speech can be wholly blamed on the fact that he's only familiar with Pokemon.]

Yes. To clarify, it's a tradition in our organization that higher up agents pick a duck partner which they then live with.

Similar to ducks maybe, but most certainly not the same. Ducks alone have many different types. Geese are an entirely different kind of animal, after all.

[ Don't mind him, ducks are kind of his hobby and passion. ]

One can only hope. It would be much more desirable than this.

Is that right? How fascinating! [The animals from other Earths are very confusing to him; there are so many of them! But, he finds them interesting and certainly doesn't look bored by his little duck/geese tangent.]

There are all sorts here. It seems many have grown fond of these creatures.

Yes. Usually Pekin ducks.

[ Not to be confused with the dish Peking Duck. ]

What do the ducks do?

For the most part they support their partners mentally. But they pick up on some handy abilities. One of my employee's duck can start a boat.

[ He's... trying not to sound bitter about that one. But failing. Because that was ultimately what got him pushed off said boat. ]

Oh yes, definitely. Hippos aren't my preferred companions, but I highly prefer them to a lot of the other things The City seems to have to offer.

[ Be careful with that or you might have to listen to a real speech on ducks and their superiority to other birds. ]

As for the hippos... Considering how most of those curses went, they'll be gone soon won't they?

We do not have birds in my world, not exactly... we have Flying Type Pokemon who are similar in appearance. [And has Nobori ever expressed disinterest in such a thing? He shares the passion for signature poses and is genuinely curious about birds and animals. A genuine speech might just hold his attention!

But, back to the topic at hand: the tiny hippo infestation.]

It would appear so. It is unfortunate, as many have named them and grown attached.

They should have known better, if this is how things usually go. If they named them anyway, it's a risk they willingly took.

[ Pokemon, huh? Despite studying paranormal, it appears that they are many things foreign to George... and he, too, wants to learn. ]

I have unfortunately never heard of such 'Pokemon'. Could you explain what sets them apart from animals as these hippos or geese?

[He frowns slightly.] Some are yet unaccustomed to the ways of this place.

They have elemental powers, which might be why they're categorized by Type, such as the Water Type, the Fire Type, and the Grass Type...

They are very commonly trained for battle where I come from; it is largely their choice to obey their trainers or not, so it is a partnership based in mutual trust and teamwork, although there are some who use unscrupulous methods to detain them against their will and subdue their powers... those are a rarity and swiftly dealt with by the authorities when possible.

Just as it should be. Having a partner like that is not something that is to be taken likely. [ Totally comparing it to his duck partner here. After all there is a reason only higher agents can pick their own duck. ]

But the fight in themselves are done voluntarily by such creatures? That's interesting. In my world, when animals are set to battle it's usually considered animal cruelty.
