I do miss home, but I like it here, too.

There are lots of nice things about it, and so many wonderful people! I haven't been here very long. How long have you been here?

Oh, a while. Four years this April, I guess.

That's a very long time. I've only been here a couple of months.

Yeah, I guess it is. It never feels so long until I say it aloud, though.

Have you come to like it here?

I do. I mean-- well, I bet there're bad parts of living anywhere. I wouldn't leave if I had the chance.

[Only partially because he has nowhere to go.]

That's true.

Even people are like that. There are good parts and bad parts. And sometimes we embrace all of that, even the bad parts. We accept them. Maybe when you do that for a town, or a city, it becomes your home.

I like how you put that.

I hope it wasn't too presumptuous of me. And I hope the City is kind to you, seeing as you've been here so long.

It's usually not too bad. Or maybe I'm just used to it, after all this time.

I hope it's kind to you too, though.

Maybe it's both things. Over time some people can get accustomed to anything.

I think that's true, people who've been here a long time-- longer than me, even, I mean-- are pretty hard to surprise. Though the City manages, sometimes.

Does anyone know how long the City has been around?

Not many, but a few. And when I was newer there were a lot who've gone home since.

I don't know offhand who's been the longest, or how far back people know of. It's a good question, though.

This has been going on a while, then.

I need to make the most of it! Especially if it ends up long term.

It's hard to know if it will be-- some people are here for years, sometimes it's just a few weeks. But there's no reason not to make the most of every day, either way.
