Wings [Five] - Video

[standing_alone]

[The wind is clearly audible on this transmission. Zack has some duct tape between his teeth (as well as in his hands) and he is sealing up his windows - just in case. The last thing he wants is to wake up, covered in snow.]

I suggest you do the same. [He smiles at the communicator and waves the roll of duct tape.] If you need help, I'll get to you somehow. The cold shouldn't affect me much.

[Stretching his arms over his head, he watches the blizzard gain momentum outside.]

This will be an interesting day. I hope everyone is warm enough. [He pauses and takes a seat.] If all else fails, go for body warmth. It might be a little awkward, but at least you'll both survive.

Man, this makes me wish I was home with Merlin. [She's currently in the hospital, dealing with a zombie bite and all the fun that came with. She doesn't look half bad, though.]

Have people been degenerating?

I wouldn't know. But I don't think being bitten by a zombie is a good thing.

I didn't think of that! I should seal up the windows, too.

Why wouldn't the cold affect you much, though? It's pretty bad.

I haven't been uncomfortable in cold or hot weather since I became a SOLDIER. I guess it's one of the pluses.

That must be convenient. I'm kinda an angel, and I'm freezing if I so much get near the window!

A real angel? With wings? [Jealous.]

Well, kinda. But yeah, I have wings. [Slightly sheepish look, because he hadn't thought that would get attention. His stupid mouth had just been running again.]

I've always wished I had them. [Hell he'd give up his relative immunity to weather for wings.]

Why? I mean, it's cool to fly, and they're kinda useful for that. But they can be a pain, too.

You have true freedom with them. [At least that's how he imagined them.] I'm always stuck on the ground.

I guess so. But I'm not gonna keep them.

I kinda just always wanted to be a normal human.

Really? How do you get rid of them?

I don't really know. But I'm hoping it's possible after I finish what I'm supposed to back home.

Sounds like you're caught between a rock and a hard place. [He frowns.] I'd probably want to keep them.

Well, I like flying. And I am a little attached to them, now. But being a normal human is more important. I won't even remember any of this when I get back, anyway.

...you...I can't remember the first conversation we had. Did you have anything back home?

Not everyone is cut out to be normal.

[That's a difficult question, Setsuna.]

I guess I'll get to have wings of my own when I get back. [He smiles a bit sadly.] I know I didn't make it with all of those injuries.

[Pout.] Well, maybe I am! [And...as much as he doesn't want to admit it, maybe he's not. He's never been able to fit in trying to be normal. It seems like he was more accepted when he just embraced everything about him that was weird or different.]

[To that, he looks downright disheartened.] That sucks, though. Doesn't sound like much to return to.

If that's your dream, you should go for it. [Zack beams. Dreams are important!]

I'm not worried. It was my time. [And he passed on his legacy to Cloud - who will take good care of it.] I feel bad for my parents...and Aerith, though.

That's what I'm gonna do! When I get back. I'm going after all my dreams.

[He is smiling, but it's melancholic.] I don't know if I could ever be that at peace with the idea of dying. My time or not.

They special to you? Because, yeah, for them, when you're gone, it's probably gonna hurt, a lot.

There's nothing more important than chasing your dreams.

[He tilts his head, blue eyes filled with concern.] When I became a SOLDIER, I accepted that I might die in a battle. I made a decision then and there to make sure the battle mattered. And it did. So I'm okay.

[A brief nod.] I hope they can comfort one another. [He would be pleased if Cloud comforted Aerith and vice versa.]

That I already know. [He'd never argue that.]

You know, that's still impressive to me, anyway. Even if I thought it might happen, I still don't think I could be so accepting of it.

But yeah. They'll probably comfort each other. It's the best thing in times like those.
