[After nearly four years in the City, one becomes adept at ignoring all sorts of unpleasant circumstances. It's a point of pride that Cameron rarely cancels her plans due to curse interference; doing so always feels like letting the City win, and she can't abide that.

Today, apart from work, she has a few errands to run; lunch at a café, a quick stop by the bakery. She's doing her best to avoid the scattered bunches of mistletoe, but no one can miss all of them...]

What do you do other than work?

Nothing terribly interesting. I read a lot, and spend too much money on restaurants. [And enough time on the treadmill to make up for that.] And in between cases I've been compiling a study on the immunological differences among non-human and near-human individuals in the City, for the sake of developing a better base of knowledge for treatments.

Is there any chance I could take a look at your data sometime? It probably won't have any bearing on my work, but in terms of satisfying personal curiosity, I'd love to see it.

Sure, I understand, but maybe bringing another pair of eyes to look at the anonymous data will see something new. I'll be looking at it from the perspective of a biochemist, and less as a doctor.

We see things on a daily basis, here, that I still think are impossible. [Present company included, clearly.] I'm sure your perspective could help make sense of some of it.
