[She's coming out of a shop just as he makes that comment, head ducking under and awning. Even dressed for winter she looks sleek and polished, her coat perfectly tailored, her heels pressing into the sidewalk]

Hello, Yusuf.

Good evening, Saya. [ A nod, his hands in his pockets. Yusuf is layered but he's not equipped to deal with the amount of snow the City has decided to endlessly sprinkle upon the streets and buildings alike. He could use a warmer coat, a wardrobe staple he has rather no experience shopping for... ]

You seem prepared for this weather, at least.

[synanthrope]

[She looks him up and down]

You're not. You never really lived anywhere cold, did you?

[Saya spent a better bulk of her childhood in Namibia, she understands being more accustomed to mild winters.]

[diastereomer]

Back when I was still attending Uni, I suffered through three rather unpleasantly cold winters. [ Most people suffer through winters in England, but Yusuf likes to think his suffering was particularly remarkable. He plucks at the shirt under his light jacket, a thin, cotton thing. ] Moving to Kenya was a strategic move, of sorts.

How long have I known you?

[she asks with a calculating tone in her voice]

[ Caught... off guard! ]

Well, I suppose- [ A moment, his eyes wandering down the street as if someone might be standing there with a running tally of the days. ] A little over a year. I believe you were one of the first people I ever spoke to in the City, and that was sometime around last September.

[ He's too polite to add the why do you ask? ]

[synanthrope]

I suppose I haven't bought you an appropriate gift, have I?

[She takes his arm, as if for balance, even though her balance is better than his even in her heels]

[Guess who's out and about on her way to find some nice winter boots?

This redhead. She pauses as she passes him on the street.]

I thought that was just me. [Who was finding the snow obnoxious.] Watch out, they'll all tell you to have fun with it.

[diastereomer]

[ The ease with which she slips her arm into the crook of his, as if saying don't argue, it's a waste of breath, almost surprises Yusuf. Almost, but not quite. Saya has a way about her that never seems affected- unflinchingly blunt, at times, but never like she's playing for anyone's affections.

Which is refreshing, at the very least. ]

Not that you should feel at all obligated to. [ A token protest, at best; but shopping with Saya will give Yusuf the opportunity to find something that she might enjoy receiving as well. ] Do you participate in Holiday gift-giving?

[synanthrope]

I like giving gifts.

[Watching people react is interesting, and debt accumulates even when it shouldn't.]

I know a place with some very nice coats for men.

[diastereomer]

[ Yusuf's nod is one of the all-suffering; one of those branded PRACTICAL when the majority just wants to lie down in the piles of cold, wet stuff and make misshapen silhouettes. ]

A cheerful bunch, the lot of them. At least the ones that frequent the network. [ A pause, where he weighs his options. Some people don't appreciate being reminded of their loss of memories- the other them that people grew to know. In his time knowing her, the other her, Natasha had seemed many things, but willfully ignorant was not one of them. ] It's Natasha, yes?

[diastereomer]

A generous avocation.

[ His smile is a touch at his cheek, the puff of his breath in the chilly winter air. ]

Were my shopping intentions so transparent?

[synanthrope]

No. I thought I was kidnapping you for my own purposes, Yusuf.

[diastereomer]

That can be the case, so long as a coat comes out of it.

[ While Saya leads the way, Yusuf asks, ] Have you shopped for men's clothing before?

[synanthrope]

I bought Mr. Eames a suit.

Yes, I've shopped for men's clothes. Most of my friends are men.

[diastereomer]

Oh, [ Amused. ] Did you receive a formal thank you from Arthur?

[ You know... now that Yusuf thinks about it... ] What an interesting happenstance.

[synanthrope]

No.

[Blunt, she is.]

Is that so? Why do you think so?

[She takes small steps, leading on]

[She'd probably stand next to him while they do so, silent and judging them for being so frivolous when there are much more important things to be doing in a time like this.

For example, purchasing proper footwear.]

That they are. [There is a blink of surprise, just a blink- a bat of lashes is more accurate. It's becoming somewhat less surprising to find people who...know her from her previous time here.] That is right. I'm assuming you knew me from before. You'll have to excuse me for not having retained that information, I'm apparently one of the 'lucky' ones who returned without the knowledge of my previous times here.
