[ Her device is aimed at the view from the window of her new apartment, taking in the flock of birds spiraling to and fro through the sky. She keeps quiet for a moment, letting the video run before she finally speaks. ]

Either we're stuck in Snow White's twisted fantasy or the next thing you know there'll be a partridge in a pear tree sprouting out of every single crack in the sidewalk. [ As amused as she sounds, this will be the first Christmas Clary's spent absolutely alone. No mom, no Luke, no Simon. She's not sure how Shadowhunters feel about Christmas but it would have been nice to spend it with them too.

She's not a natural pessimist though, so when the feed switches to her she smiles. ] I'm kind of looking for work? I did a few stints helping out at a museum last summer, so I'm good with crowds. [ A little self-conscious now. ] I mean, okay I haven't really got a lot of experience but I'm eager to learn my hand at a trade so anything out there would be awesome.

It's a bird, I think. [ She's not entirely sure what kind of bird it is though. ] Must be a Christmassy thing.

[ A pause. ] I don't think they'd do that, the deities need the City in one piece, right?

Ah, like a Delibird? There are these bird Pokemon who carry sacks... they're popular during this season because they deliver gifts, although, sometimes, the gifts are unpleasant jokes like flash bombs.

[He's saying this as if it's perfectly ordinary.]

... deities? Forgive me, but I have not been here very long. I have not heard about them.

That will happen, unfortunately. You're supposed to either play music loudly, surround yourself by people, get roommates or pets.

Myself, I just make sure to spend the most time possible out of the house.

So the City is pretty much anti-quiet then? [ Which, y'know, sucks. As Clary has a certain fondness for peace and quiet. Of course, since meeting Jace that really hasn't been an option. ]

Oh! They're the Gods who run this place apparently. I haven't spoken to any of them yet, but they're in charge of the curses. Has someone explained that part yet?

I've never tried them. [Tilts her head, thoughful for a moment.] I expect they'd dull the ticking, just about.

There are places where you can find quiet, even in the City.

Really? Because I'm totally a fan of silence. I haven't had much lately.

[ Mostly because of y'know, death and destruction but she's not about to mention any of that. ]

You really should try the library. There are enough people in there, being quiet, that it will dull the ticking. I used to go there every day after my brother and friends left.

I'm sorry, that must have been hard.

[ She wants to ask more about the library, where it is, when it's open, if she can just live in there because her tiny apartment is lonely and she feels ridiculous. But then again, she's not sure if they've reached a tricky subject or not. ]

Have you considered finding a housemate?

Sort of. It'd be nice not to live on my own. Clint helped me find a place but it's kind of - [ Empty, quiet, awful. ]

I'm not used to living alone. At all. It's always been me and my mom.

[Well. It's always been Mae and Jamie and their mom, but Annabel was...not the closest, warmest mother, despite her apparent want to be.]

Would you like to? Share a flat with me, I mean. I've been on my own for almost a year now, and it's pretty clear that Jamie's not coming back. Even if he did, I'm sure he'd find a corner to fold himself in, but that isn't the point. The point is, the ticking - it really is terrible. I don't remember what it's like to have dinner at home and not have to hear is, so...would you?
