[This post opens to a view of the lake at twilight--on the lake, rather. The video is unsteady; look away if you're the sort of person who is prone to seasickness. Lakesickness. Whatever the network device is balanced on appears to be moving at a good clip.

Oh, wait. The view changes and--yep, that's a giant wooden swan head. Citizens, there is a motorized swan boat doing warp eight going faster than wooden swan boats are probably supposed to go.]

This is the best curse since everything turned to food!

[Not surprisingly, perhaps, that voice belongs to Chekov. Should anyone else be enjoying a nice swan boat ride on the lake... well, be careful. This particular swan's steering system might not be working at optimum levels.]

[Korra isn't sneaking away from Jinora and meditation practice. Nope. She just decided to...take a walk. And found herself inside one of the swanboats. It's moving too fast for her to jump out.

Assuming she even wanted to.

She doesn't.

She hollars loudly and waves at Chekov.]

[ 'Li's face is the color of a fish belly. Make it stop swaaaaaying!!! ]

[Surely Jinora can forgive Korra. The boats did look awfully tempting... especially the ones with the buttons instead of the foot peddles.]

KORRA! [The motor--or whatever is powering the swan--isn't terribly loud, but talking while moving at a high velocity encourages a certain amount of volume.] Can you steer your boat?!

[Because he barely can. Speed and nominal control are a recipe for disaster, but Chekov hasn't had a decent thrill since sewer monsters tried to kill him in October. He encourages his swan to move in a general towards-Korra direction.]

[But Chekov can't try to drive and work the device if he moves it!]

I'm riding a swan! [He sounds very excited about this, thank you. Starfleet's finest.] I thought I was driving it, but it became largely unresponsive at a certain speed.

[Taking a potentially injury-inducing high-speed spin a swan-shaped boat has nothing to do with seeking distractions from another recent black out--not so significant or bizarre as the first, but worrisome none the less. Nothing at all.]

[ For 'Li's own (seeming) sanity, he switches to audio. ] A-Are you sure its safe? I doubt it's supposed to go that fast. [ A blackout, you say? Do share, Pavel. You're among honest and well-meaning friends, after all. ]

[Her boat abruptly changes course and charges towards Chekov's boat.]

[Oh. Uh oh. He tries to make his own boat veer left to avoid Korra's, but it chooses to speed in the opposite direction... towards the other boat.]

No, I'm not sure at all, and I did nothing to make it go so fast. [Maybe later. Gosh, Li, can't you tell he's busy trying not to die a fiery death-by-swanboat?]

[ He never would've pegged you as an adrenaline-junkie, gospodin Chekov! ]

M-Maybe you should try to steer it toward land.

I suppose so, but I would rather ride on it.

[One does not pursue a very dangerous career as a space explorer without being a bit of an adrenaline-junkie, Li sensei.]

That would be a wonderful idea, but the steering system is not functioning.

[ That explains a great deal, yes. ]

Wha-a-a-at? [ His voice cracks. ] Have you tried calling for assistance?

[ Silly Li-pie. Can't you tell he's enjoying it? ]

Why would I do that?

In case your boat hits something.

And c-c-capsizes.

[Korra pulls at every lever she can get her hands on, but nothing will deter this swan from its chosen course of attack. She doesn't know physics, but she can tell that this isn't going to end well.

It takes her just a split second to make her decision. She dives off the ship.]

[Chekov gives up on levers and starts pulling the controls apart... but not for very long. Once Korra abandons ship (swan?), he decides that it would be wise to do likewise. After he tries--no, probably now would be good.

He watches the swanboats collide from the relative safety of the very cold water. It's rather impressive how much fire there is, but it is the City.

Hopefully Korra was clear.]

Ah.

I will worry about that if that happens.

But -- isn't prevention better than [ drowning ] falling overboard?

[She's well clear of the explosion, treading in the water.]

You okay, Chekov?

The odds of drowning are--

[ OH D-D-DEAR ]

Yes!

[If flailing just enough to stay afloat is okay, yes. On second thought, Chekov thinks that he ought to admit that swimming is not one of his talents.]
