[Sitting outside a small cafe, Isaak looks fairly composed, all things considered, though his shirt's a tad rumpled. Calmly setting a small coffee cup on its saucer, he smiles briefly at the camera.]

Well, I've certainly seen what you all meant about these so-called curses. It must be dreadfully difficult to get anything done around here, if you're not a dairy farmer.

[He shifts, leaning back slightly in his seat.]

So.. I suppose I've made the best of worse situations, but I am accustomed to having more in the way of resources. Unfortunately, I wasn't given the opportunity to pack before this delightful abduction. Which means, for the first time in quite a long time, I'm looking for a job.

A city of this size must have something more interesting than waiting tables to offer. I've always found a certain satisfaction in making myself of use.

So, tell me: [here, he leans forward again, clasping his hands in front pf him, elbows on the table,] what do you need, my fellow captives?

I suggest that you do. Most of it is your fairly average fare, but that doesn't make it any less diverting.

This place seems to thrive on diversions.

That's certainly one way to put it. Not all of the diversions are bad.

Ms. Wallace thinks I'd do well to open a nightclub.

I don't disagree. People here need entertainment, and depending on the focus of your nightclub, I think you could do well for yourself financially.

It's certainly worth keeping in mind.

It's also worth being careful in whatever venture you choose to throw yourself into. There are people here who are, shall we say, deeply unpleasant.

[He offers a slight smirk with this.]

[Isaak smiles in return, partly because he's more accustomed to being the deeply unpleasant person in this sort of situation.]

I'll take that under advisement.

[Oh, Andrew can relate to that far more than Isaak might realize.]

Of course, there's always the option of working with those people, if you're not adverse to some danger.

[Obviously, Isaak isn't going to do anything illegal. Obviously.]

I suppose that's always an option.

Especially around here, where they've yet to develop any sort of effective police force, to my knowledge.

Is that right? Things really are stacked against the common man here, aren't they?

You could see it that way, I suppose. I find the lack of efficient government or policing rather gratifying.

Good for business, you mean.

[A Soviet propaganda writer couldn't come up with a better caricature of the evils of capitalism, Mr. Ryan. Luckily, Isaak finds that rather charming.]

But of course.

[That being the case is a compelling explanation for why Andrew left Soviet Russia in the first place. They weren't quite as charmed by his capitalist ways as Isaak may be.]

I utterly despise censorship, and any government that tries to regulate the market is both fighting a losing battle and overextending themselves. While this city may have problems -- countless, irritating, vaguely dangerous problems -- the lack of meaningful government is refreshing.

[Isaak's always been disinclined to toe the Party line himself, but that might have something to do with his great uncle's execution and his grandfather being sent to Siberia. Still, considering where his money comes from, he can't disagree.]

The so-called Deities must thrive on chaos.

They do. But then, chaos can be useful in its own way.

For those who know how to use it.
